Inside is a depressing history of eugenics in Germany... Across the square at the church were anti-semitic protestors, calling for the Palestinians to drive the Israelis into the sea (all were old German people). In the square there were people complaining about the Turkish people in Germany.

It is heartbreaking to read the stories of these people and how little they were valued. It also made me realise that so many incredible and... More

The town hall is lovely. Currently there is a solemn, yet moving exhibit on the atrocities of WWII. The personal stories of locals are told in German and English.

Inside there are stunning elements on display - intricate wood carving, halls filled with cherubs and paintings, tributes to the city's links with maritime trade and its whaling heritage. You do... The only way to see the inside of the rathaus is to join a guided tour. We were a bit disappointed that it only showed us the staircase and two adjoining rooms as the building itself is much bigger. Currently the outside of the building is under construction so you will not be able to get the nice picture you... More
