The area

Address
Neighborhood: Neukölln
No Berlin neighborhood is more popular with the young and jet-set crowd than the old worker's district of Neukölln. With so many Turkish settled here, the area became known as "Little Istanbul." Today the percentage of foreigners is still high and visitors still frequent the Turkish shisha bars. In the daytime, they also visit the designer shops and sit by the canal in one of the street cafés up and down Westerstrasse or at Maybachufer, having a beer and waving to the sightseeing boats as they float by. But at night, Neukölln is dominated by increasingly young, alternative, and international crowds. This is particularly evident in the northern section of the district where there are many bars, funky clubs, galleries and restaurants. There, the night never seems to end.

This park is small and immaculately sculpted with statuary and stone balustrades outlining the perimeter. The trees are big and beautiful and there is a cafe built into one of the side walls. Neukoln has plenty of green space between Tempelhof and some of the surrounding parks, but this one stands out as the most refined.

The Neukölln area houses dozens of pleasant places away from most touristic routes that you may simple ignore at first glance, as they are so much mixed to the urban life that locals may take it for granted. Körnerpark is one of these hidden gems: a garden in neo-baroque style, built to mimic the type of garden you'd expect to find in a palace or mansion. The area used to be a gravel pit until early 1900's, when it was donated to the town of Rixdorf buy it's owner (a man named Körner, hence its name). Delightful place to spend some hours on a sunny afternoon, it's not uncommon to find recently married couples taking pictures in their wedding costumes.

Hidden gem, though not so hidden on weekends and summer. Popular with families and wedding photos. Soak up the sun here and enjoy a private moment with yourself or have a picnic. Remember to throw your rubbish where it belongs :)
