- Claire N6 contributionsBondiful experienceFrom the moment we entered through ‘security’ we were kept amused and educated by the great mix of written and interactive displays. Intrigued to see how weapons were disguised in every day objects and the skills required to be a great spy. We tried the lie detector, lip reading and laser obstacle course as well as writing in invisible ink and breaking into a safe. Felt worthy of having our photos taken in the opening scenery from James Bond films. A must do for any Berlin trip!Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 24, 2023

The museum has a nice summary of several know and less known secrete agents and a large section of tools/devices used by them in modern history. - Clifford C9 contributionsAbsolutely epic experienceIt was like stepping into a real-life spy movie! From the gadgets to the interactive exhibits, I was hooked from the moment I walked in. Learning about the history of espionage and seeing how spies operated was not only fascinating but kinda thrilling, too. Plus, getting to test out some of the spy gear? Absolutely epic. If you're into cloak-and-dagger stuff or just looking for a fun and unique museum experience, this place is definitely worth a visit.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten January 25, 2024
- Jason K Ferry40 contributionsGood but could be more interactiveLots to see and lots of information however we thought there was more to do. It was quite busy even though midweek and lots of children monopolising the exhibits. Definitely worth a visit and maybe a private tour would give you more interactionThanks a lot for your review! While we do tie tickets to specific time slots for a visit to stagger the traffic, those impact the entry, not the duration of the time visitors spend in the museum - so it might still become a bit busy at times, unfortunately. - tbarkerbostonBoston, Massachusetts151 contributionsInformative and FunAs a family we visited and really had a fun time with many of the hands-on exhibits. Creating passwords and testing their strength, trying to locate a bug, as well as the laser challenge obstacle course. These were all exciting for all of us. There was a enough things to read and to try for a more than an hour or two. We sort of lost track of time engaging with so many interesting areas. My 9 year old son enjoyed dressing up in disguise, reading displays, and getting to try various spy craft elements that were really well done.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten May 1, 2024

- Pinkapple2014Nottingham, United Kingdom187 contributionsFun interactive museumWe enjoyed this, lots of hands on things to do - we particularly liked the laser maze. It was really busy when we were there - lots of school groups so we didn’t get to try everything as there were queues. I’d recommend booking your slot online in advance - we didn’t and couldn’t get in for over an hour. Loads of information to read so you could easily spend a few hours, but 12 year olds have other ideas!Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 30, 2024
- th123456Debenham, United Kingdom21 contributionsVery good - could be even better with portable seats and a lift. And book ahead!A very interesting museum. You could spend all day there! Lots of interesting exhibits, some hands-on things to play with. It's on two levels and there doesn't seem to be a lift, so it isn't ideal for wheelchairs, familiies with buggies, etc. There are boxes you can sit on but it would be better if they had portable seats as in many art galleries, for those who can't stand for long periods. Admission at the door is €16 standard for adults, but you can typically save €2 each by booking online, and you can then be sure of entry. Why do entertainments never list their admission prices at the door? There are lockers available and a cafe. This place did not live up to the hype. We got the first tickets of the day (10am) and still had to wait for certain areas and deal with entitled families and crowds. All the cool hands on activities involve lines and some long waits. My kids were so excited for the laser course but a family with 6 kids was in front of us in line and would go through the course and while one of their family members was still at the front of the line the rest would join in and then cut in front of us to do it again. They ignored us when we spoke up. And there were no staff around to help. There is no staff oversight! No employees were walking around to ensure people weren’t spending all day at the popular attractions while long lines formed.
This museum has some neat stuff but I wouldn’t recommend it. Once they have your money and you are inside, the museum doesn’t care about you, your family, or your experience.
Additionally, they may have hand sanitizer in a few places, but people were not distancing or prompt wearing masks. There was also no enforcement of code laws by the museum staff. So if you are concerned with covid safety, just keep that in mind.

Hello pinkbird_creates,
we are very sorry that you had such a dissapointed experience with us. Although we have a restricted number of visitors per time-slot some attractions are very popular. But our staff should be present to ensure the visitor guidelines regarding covid safety.
Please contact info@deutsches-spionagemuseum.de that we can investigate the issue and that we can make up to it.
Thanks,
Robert

I really liked this museum, it had a lot of information and lots of great spy objects, also the children didn't know where to look first. So that is ok
BUT I have one really big concern ! We entered at 18h30 and thought we had enough time but that was not true :o( My son and I were in the line for the lasergame and right before it was his turn (and I really mean on the SECOND !!!!) there came someone in to tell it was 20 o'clock and the museum was closing and we couldn't do anything anymore, just like that. My son was VERY dissapointed :o( :o( We were led like sheep to the exit, I didn't like that at all!!! You don't do that to people. In another museum we went, there was an announcement half an hour before closing time so you know what amount of time you have. Here it was so nice and so much to see we forgot about time. Maybe you could at least let the people finish who were already in line? We were with 5 or so? That wouldn't have killed anybody. Oh my god, I can't get over it.
So dear visitors of this museum, I can recommend it BUT do NOT go there after 18 o'clock or you will not be able to see it all and get treated like you do not want to be

I went with a friend of mine to the spy museum the fun starts at when u enteren the museum with your ticket. You will get scanned like on an airport and it gives you the right vibe right away. There are lots of interactive things to do but keep in mind that sometimes you need to wait because it can be very busy. There were several lines in the museum for some small activities. There is also lots and lots of reading and just a lot to see. We were there for 3,5 hours and skipped over multiple of text. If you really wanna go through everything it can take up to 4 hours I think but with a Quick look around maybe you can be done in 2,5 hours. If you are in germany and have enough time to spend atleast 3 hours in one museum i would totally recommend this museum!

Very modern museum with lots of “spy” exhibits but it’s one of these contrived set ups that has interactive, flashy lights stuff. Lots of children and teenagers were loving it but I didn’t. The Stasi headquarters blows it away and it’s in thee original historical building AND it’s way cheaper. Entry was €15 (I believe the price varies depending on how busy it is- bizarre) and as soon as I had to stand in a fake scanner entrance door I knew I’d wasted my money. They also grouped entry into time slots, I think to ease congestion but it was still too busy. Maybe be better if it was quiet and you could take time to look at everything as loads of reading explanations are required on touch pads, I didn’t get that pleasure. But, as I say, kids seemed to love it.

Hello ColinShotts,
thank you for the feedback. We're sorry you didn't like it. Of course, we also want to bring the world of espionage closer to children and also to provide adults with interactive stations knowledge with fun. In addition, of course, we also have a lot of information, multimedia content and numerous original exhibits.
Our dynamic pricing system is actually intended to distribute the limited number of visitors better over time and especially rewards early booking of less frequented times.
Feel free to write to feedback@deutsches-spionagemuseum.de about what would make it more interesting for you.
Kind regards,
Elena

Really nice content and exhibits in the museum. Especially the interactive stations are really nice, especially for kids.
Unfortunately though it seems the museum sells too tickets and it was quite crowded, especially if those interactive exhibits are not limited in time for a single user.
We had to wait a very long for a single one, as the people before us didn't care of the long queue of people waiting behind them.
This kinda dampened the enjoyment of the rest of the exhibition.

We visited the museum in August. The exhibition is great, well-done and with interactive games.
We bought the cheapest tickets which meant the 7pm timeslot. Wasn't a great idea... As soon as we entered the exhibition, a member of staff was here to push us until the end as the museum closes at 8pm. In my opinion it would be better to stop entries to the museum at least at 6:30pm.

My friend and I were very surprised and disappointed to discover that there are different prices depending on the time slot you choose to book when we arrived at the museum. We took the 7PM time slot because it was the cheaper (still more expensive than what we were expecting before coming) but we didn't have enough time to see everything since the museum was closing at 8PM. It's really a pity because everything was really interesting and there was a lot to see and interactive activities but that whole thing with time slots and different prices just ruined the experience for us.
Maybe if you book a few days prior you can get another time slot with a better price, but I still think it's not normal to put different prices for time slots, because in the end what we see is still the same no matter the time you come.

Hello evess67,
thank you for the feedback.
Our dynamic pricing system is intended to distribute the limited number of visitors more evenly over the time slots. Early online booking of time slots that are less in demand is particularly rewarded. This also makes it possible to visit at a much lower price than with a fixed admission price.
Kind regards,
Elena

More than three-hundred exhibits showcase original items used throughout history, as well as replicas to demonstrate how equipment would have looked. From both World Wars and the Cold War, to elaborate spy techniques and the gear they used, to learning about conspiracy theories and forms of poison, the museum covers it all! Stories are told that bridge thousands of years, from displaying a cipher technique invented by Julius Caesar, secret methods used by Oliver Cromwell and Napoleon, as well as a codex, the design of which was created by Leonardo Da Vinci. And what museum can call themselves a spy one if they don’t have an entire exhibit dedicated to the best spy of all: James frickin’ Bond!
Tickets are 12€.

My sister and I visited the museum as part of a short trip to Berlin and really enjoyed it! We are both in our early thirties but this experience would be interesting for adults and children of all ages. We spent two hours there but easily could have been there for longer (we didn't take part in a number of the interactive pieces as it was quite busy when we visited and other people were using them). It was absolutely torrentially raining the day we visited so it was the perfect activity to keep us occupied! The exhibits are well laid out, informative and interactive so you can spend as much or as little time in each section as you like. I would highly recommend this experience, especially if you have an interest in history, spies, or both!

I went to the museum with my family and we loved the problem solving: finding the right frequency (radio), laser maze, lie detector, etc. It also had information about the spies and what they did. The gift shop at the end is also really cool and fun but is a little pricey. In total, this is a fun, interactive and immersive experience that will make families and spy fans want to come back and experience everything it has to offer.

Written January 21, 2016
