Marienkirche, also known as St. Mary's Church in English is a church located on Karl Liebknecht Straße, near Alexanderplatz. Originally a Catholic church, it’s been a Lutheran church since the reformation. It's romanesque style church which has undergone restoration work over the 800 years of its existence and currently undergoing another, so it’s not possible to enter.

Until the restoration is complete, I wouldn’t visit unless you’re in the area.

The interesting thing at this place is that the entrance to the church is below the current street ground level. Notice how much this has changed over the last few hundred years.

A 14th-century Protestant church, dates back to 1270.

Most part of the building is made of red bricks which gives it distinctive color. The two red buildings, the Marienkirche and the Rotes Rathaus, are add to each other's splendour,

The tower remains the oldest part of the church. The wall of its main facade made of limestone and granite, is beautiful and amazing.

In the foyer of the church, there is the famous fresco "The Dance of Death (Totentanz)”. It was originally painted at the end of the fifteenth century to commemorate the plague epidemics of the Dark Ages. It is a priceless artwork,.

Near Alexanderplatz.

The church was originally a Roman Catholic church, then a Lutheran Protestant church since the Protestant Reformation.
the Marienkirche is the oldest church in Berlin. It was built from red bricks in the local Brick Gothic style. It is a long hall church with thee naves, wide arches and arcades

Today, the church’s centrepiece and main attraction, is the fresco painting entitled Dance of Death. The remaining fragments of the fresco, which depicts the dancing dead representing people from all walks of life, is exhibited behind glass.

Also known as Marienkirche (in German), St. Mary Church is a mediaeval edifice, surrounded by high-rise, modern buildings. Completed some time after 1250 as a church for the newly established town of Berlin and built in the red brick, traditional Gothic style, being subsequently reconstructed a few times, folowing fire destructions. However, today's masterpiece is the remaining fragments of a painting entitled the Dance of Death, located in the church's tower, and dating late 1400s.

Beautiful historic church originally from 1270 but with a few rebuilds in the Alexanderplatz area, known as St. Mary's Church in English. No charge to go in you can leave a donation, some wonderful paintings and sculptures. Open at 10.00am very near train station and well worth a visit.

Marienkirche is hard to miss as it sits by itself in open space bordered by Alexanderplatz and very near to the Altes Rathaus and the towering Fernsehturm (TV Tower). We stopped here while touring the Christmas market located adjacent to the Rathaus. The church has a towering clock spire and a multi tone stone and brick facade. Very novel.
