The Weltzeituhr at Alexanderplatz is a must-see for anyone visiting Berlin. The retro design displays the current time in various cities around the globe. It’s a great spot for photos and a fun way to connect with Berlin’s history and global perspective. If you’re in the area, definitely take a moment to check out this iconic landmark.

The Urania World Clock is a clock located on Alexanderplatz.

This ten-meter-high clock was erected in 1969 at the same time as the iconic Berlin TV Tower.

The metallic rotunda has a total of 148 city names broken down by 24 time zones.

On top of the clock is a simplified model of the solar system. The planets move one revolution per minute.

This clock is a popular meeting place among Berliners.

Very nice old landmark, showing the current time in 148 cities around the world. Mechanically operated, still in use after more than 50 years of operation. Cool to see, great photo opportunity.

This world clock is, believe it or not, the main attraction on Alexanderplatz. The clock sits here from the communist DDR times what you could exactly tell from its appearance.
For some reason the place is popular to take pics and selfies, and the Alexanderplatz is a famous meeting point due to its S and U Bahn station along with many bus and tram lines. Otherwise, the square is as ugly as the clock with many sketchy and homeless people around.

Historically fine watch just mine at Alexander platz. Lights up nicely in the dark, and quite enjoyable to walk around and see a lot of cities placed in time zones. Totally free fun

The Weltzeituhr is a clock that shows the time in 24 time zones. The clock is a large turret-style clock displays the time zones and therefore the offset to calculate the actual time in the required city. The clock is topped with a sculpture of the solar system as a sphere, which also rotates. Not sure how accurately the planetary movements are simulated though.

The clock is popular with tourists, but I think it looks okay and wouldn't go out of the way to see it unless you happen to be going to Alexanderplatz. A bit daft having to do mental arithmetic to tell the time, but meh.

The 16 tons world Time Clock (Weltzeituhr or Urania World Clock) became number one tourist attraction in Alexanderplatz since it displays the current time in 148 major cities from around the world. Cities are grouped depending on their time zones. 24 sided coloumns exists and each column represents one of the twenty-four main time zones of the globe with the names of cities which use that time zone engraved into it. The clock is topped by a representation of the solar system, which rotates once a minute.

A legend that states if lovers are holding hands at midnight adjacent to the world clock tower, they will be together forever.

It was pened to the public on 30 September 1969, to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the German Democratic Republic.

The Weltzeituhr is interesting for a quick look but other than that, unless there is a protest going on under it (they do happen occasionally) there's not much to do other than take a selfie and leave - it would be worse than watching paint dry to hang around and wait for it to move! Alexanderplatz has developed massively since I was last there in 2002 and now seems a little over-developed, quite dirty and had a bit of a weird atmosphere - nothing specific, just not somewhere I enjoyed spending time like I did 18 years ago.
