I was stationed in West Germany during 1962-1963 and passed through this checkpoint (and Checkpoint Alpha) many times on the way to Berlin and back.
BTW, we were instructed not to stop or pay any attention to the East German checkpoints- only the Allied and Soviet ones. The East Germans erected a STOP sign at one checkpoint and we were ordered NOT to stop at it!

I am old enough to remember this "checkpoint", where the DDR horror ended or began, depending on your direction. I remember hair raising Vopo's checking your passport. They had hollow, pale blues eyes and looked like they had drugs.
Now there is a single tiny tower left, which is closed from november. There are some panels on the history - but frankly the do not justify the trip here.
And if you still dare to go here: it is zone 'C' for publication so most people require at least an additional ticket.

Worked at 'Bravo' back in the 80's and crossed over to East Germany many times through this checkpoint. Not as glamorous as Checkpoint Charlie but was as important if not more important as it was the exit point for troop movements to West Berlin as they traveled through East Germany down to the even less know Checkpoint Alpha. I stopped and walked around the old place which is pretty much a ruin now. If you are in he area better come see if while it is still up.

Drove past a few times.
Stop and took a walk around.
US spend money in the days.
Looking at the size, you can imagine the number of people that went through here.
Some signs around to indicate what has been around here would have been good.
The place probably needs a cleanup also.
