About
In the grand tradition of Speak Easy clubs, Bar Tausend is well hidden behind a steel door under the Friedrichstrasse S-bahn tracks and guarded by a discerning doorman. The futuristic main bar area, basically a long tunnel with circular lights at either end and mirrors above, looks like something out of the classic German film Metropolis. Hidden behind the restaurant, whispered about by Berlin foodies—the so-called Tausend Cantina. For an unforgettable meal, call in advance for reservations.

Bar Tausend offers great atmosphere, quality drinks and good service. It’s a mix between bar and club, where you really can have good fun. The only aspect requiring improvement in my view is the introduction of ban on smoking, as even though when you are inside it is not too bad, when you leave you smell as hell. I was really surprised that in Berlin you are allowed to smoke in so many places... 😞

Great bar with a cool atmosphere. As a fan of the Babylon Berlin series it was a real treat to spend an evening here. Good drinks and overall good service made this a memorable evening.

I visited this bar on a Saturday night. It's located right under the train tracks and you will need to find a metal door with a bell to ring outside. There are no signs so look closely or you might miss it.

The atmosphere is sophisitcated with dark walls and black mirrors. The drinks are expensive but very good. When the trains run over the drop the bar shakes but it just adds to the atmosphere.

Really frustrating experience. Go if you like to be ignored.
The place makes definitely a 'wow' effect the moment you enter. And here the fun part is over.
The bar service is the most inefficient and disorganized I've ever seen. To get the bar tender attention is rather a mission to the moon. There is crowd of people sitting by the bar and there is no chance to find a tiny gap to squeeze in and place the order. The bartenders see you waiting for looong while and they still pretend they don't see you.
We noticed one waiter doing service on the floor, so we decided to try luck and we found a free table.
The guy (takk, slim blond, short hair) was running like a headless chicken in the most unorganized manner you could possibly imagine. He was picking up a few bits from a messy tables, then disappearing, then taking a several orders from random people, which finally never arrived.
We were sitting by a messy table being ignored for 45 min, eventually he managed to clean a few tables around us, but not ours. Really? After one hour I approached him and i placed the order. 20 min later he brought us the drinks. I ordered non alcoholic cocktail, instead i received Schwepps gin and tonic in the bottle, for which i paid 11 EUR, as it was a cocktail. I was to tired, thirsty and frustrated to even argue. It was a big scam and rip off. We had our drinks and we left, we will never be back again.
Fancy place, where you can loose your good weekend vibe. Pitty, as we were in Berlin only for a weekend and TAUSEND was definitely a waste of time.

I was there on a week day, for a dinner and a drink afterwards.
What I personally do not like is if people try to make you feel like you are in a such a special place that you should feel like "a chosen one".
In the restaurant - they attend you like doing you a favor, not friendly at all, with a touch of VIP (very important place). At least if the food would be something extraordinary (the price level is not low) but it is simply not, fancy presentation but that´s it.
We had a drink afterwards and the barman was nice. In general however I do not recommend.

We loved it here. Such a unique location and didn’t feel pretentious at all. The god was great and the band and Dj were awesome too. Great atmosphere and very stylish bar. You really feel like your part of something cool in here and everyone was very friendly.

We wanted to go to a slightly nicer restaurant, and this was a great choice. It is a little tricky to find as it's under the bridge behind a steel door without any signage. You have to knock, and the door will then be opened for you by the receptionist (very smartly dressed). We were then led to the clock room which was a good touch as you don't have to worry about your coats (especially as it was winter and we all had big puffy coats).
The dining area is quite small, so always book. The food was amazing. Our group all had different things, the octopus was great!
(TIP: They don't take Monzo as a form of payment, for all your travellers out there using that CC)
Cocktails were also VERY nice, and didn't lack alcohol content. There is also a bar area that you can go to without eating which was pretty cool.
Staff were friendly, and gave us tips on which food/drinks were popular. As a whole we enjoyed our experience.
I would defo return if I was back in Berlin.

Before coming to Berlin I just read the reviews and search for the bar and found tausend. But extream disappointment. The food wasn't good. taste was not good. Atmosphere is normal. We thought that it was a good bar with dress code but when we saw the people getting in we were shocked. they accept with shorts and trainers. music wasn't good atmosphere was boring. So touristic. If u came here for a short time ı advise waste your time

A dandy in black suit Armani style with a French canotier hat did not really welcomed us since no mentions of a dress code was given in the article of the Guardian where Bar Tausend was mentioned.

We where underdressed but we quickly noticed once inside that Tuesday night where widely opened to slacks and walking shoes and that his idea of a suitable outfit was simply a suit or city shoes and a shirt whatever taste inspired his guests when they dressed up to visit the establishment.

Instructions were given not to take pictures in this place presented by the same Burlesque doorman as a very select bar with a tendency to secrecy.

The Guardian article described the place as a "backdrop for film-makers, models and other pretty young things as they sip cocktails to ambient house music". But nothing really pretty and young seemed to like the place this Tuesday and the DJ took close to an hour to buckle his setup.

We decided to stay and order a cocktail to this tall barman who compared to barman a in Paris, London, New York or Chicago had only the allure of the crafty mixologist hip and fashion victim. His Old Fashion was not even equaling the one made by my neighborhood bar in Chicago and lacked the essential maraschino cherry. His derivative of the Tom Collins with basil flavored was lame but refreshing. And tea waitress was apparently accepted to work with a huge black eye of dubious origin on her left side. A bit later, a blond girl who was the closest to pretty at this time in the bar, asked of the four staffers behind the bar a cigar from the menu. It took them 5 minutes to find the right module in the tiny cigars box of the counter. Sound like not many cigar amateurs were frequenting the place. Later on, a client had an alcohol request hard to find by the two assistant barmen struggling to find it between the many bottles of the single row of beverages behind them until the chef barman finally broke the dilemma and found it. Still in doubt, our two Sancho Panza continued to look at the bottle before serving, probably looking for a sort of manual printed on it...

After two cocktails, still no pretty things but more and more old boring looking things of both sexes, we paid, woke up the cloakroom lady almost sleeping on her novel and fled away to new horizons...

As a party of 7 we were very excited to try this bar as it was recommended to us by a friend.
I called the bar earlier on in the night to make sure we didn't have to book for the bar and were told to just turn up.
We arrived at the bar and were told we couldn't go in due the fact we hadn't booked. I explained we just wanted drinks and how I had called up earlier in the night but the guy was very rude and said we were not allowed in.
I asked to speak to the manager so we waited outside.
The guy came back, let us in, explained the "rules" and then asked if we had booked ? I explained again to the very same person we hadn't booked as we didn't want to eat we just wanted the bar and I was told they didn't accept booking just for the bar.
Then we were shown the door! I have never experienced anything like it? looking back I am happy we didn't spend are cash in there. What business turns away 7 paying customers. I have never been treated in such a way and curtained didn't put Berlin in a good light.
Don't bother going if you are not guaranteed to get in, waste of time
