Neighborhood: Charlottenburg
Breathe in Berlin’s royal past while walking through the gardens of beautiful Charlottenburg Palace, which lends its name to this well-heeled neighborhood. Here you'll find some of the oldest homes in the city: upper-class apartment buildings with ornate facades and marble-floored foyers line the cobblestone streets. Stroll by sophisticated restaurants, through little parks, or around Lake Lietzensee. Window shop down Kurfürstendamm, the most renowned high-end shopping street in Berlin, where you can find all the big designer names. In the evening, visit one of the old theaters close by Zoo Station which were nightlife hot spots in the 1920s, or dine in one of the many international restaurants around Savignyplatz before heading to other parts of town for a night out.

Pleasant city museum and café
Aug 2015 • Friends
The Villa Oppenheim is a museum and café situated beside a small park roughly halfway between Schloß Charlottenburg and Lietzensee on a quiet side street. In the spring and summer the café is a fine place to visit and drink an espresso in a quiet, relaxed setting.

The museum has two parts: the first and more interesting is an historical account of the region Charlottenburg from its founding to the incorporation into the city of Berlin in the 20th century to modern times. There are photos, maps, exhibits and multimedia presentations which are both informative and tastefully created. It is of interest seeing how a section of the city developed.

The second floor of the museum is an eclectic collection of paintings and bronzes of varying quality and the reasons for which they are thrown together is perhaps only known to the curator.

This museum is perhaps more of interest to history buffs and locals than a general museum-going visitor. For that reason it gets three stars instead of four. Nevertheless it the historical museum is worth a visit if you have the time. Have a coffee and enjoy the park.
