Great family friendly racecourse
Oct 2019
The Hoppegarten is a historic place where races are still held in East Berlin. Its better yo go by train but it requires more than one change from Alexanderplatz!
The race track is form the 18th century and was continued through difficult times of the war and the GDR.Its been revived post reunification and its quite a hub for German race horses and an international set of jockeys
The place has history, a small club house. ;lots of colour and hats and enough going on between the races to keep you busy!

Berlin's Hoppegarten Race track-A Fun Day
Mar 2017 • Couples
Hoppegarten Racetrack on the eastern citiy limits of Berlin may well be known for its glorious past but the present is vibrant and the future is bright. Hoppegarten can be reached on the U-Bahn line (#1)with a transfer eastbound from Berlin's Alexanderplatz station. In 30 minutes the train arrives at the pleasant town of Hoppegarten and the racetrack is a five minute canter beyond the small parking lot.
Sturdy German thoroughbred bloodlines noted for stamina on the race course have been having a significant impact in recent years on the results of the English Classic races. Classy German based horses have travelled the Globe to win top prizes in North America, Australia and in Europe. With insightful new investment from current owner,
Gerhard Schoningh, his Prized track is now enjoying a substantial revitalization where Germany's top horses, trainers, jockeys and horse owners are proud to showcase their product and this is great news for race goers in search of top flight entertainment. Hospitality upgrades have been thorough including the development of large picnic areas for families while children's activities have been added. The social scene on big race days sparkle and the landscape is festooned with fashion and spectacular ladies' hats top off the great theater there.
Horse players enjoy the world class racing facilities-Including the sweeping turf course with its right bending turns and imposing stretch straightaway. While posh new Grandstand seating is available the old Grandstand is being rebuilt true to its venerable style. There is something for everyone on A big race day here at Hoppegarten and this year the track nearing its 150th anniversary offers race cards on Ladies Day, June 4, as well as June 9, July 26, August 12-13, 22nd, October 3 and 14th. The biggest day is August 13, when the prestigious Group 1, Grosser Preis Von Berlin is presented and it attracts the best horses.
There has been a huge investment payoff at Hoppegarten Racetrack and the fans are the big winners.

A Great Day At The Races
Aug 2015 • Friends
We had a great day out at Hoppegarten while staying in Berlin. It is a short train journey from Berlin but it takes you to a beautiful racetrack. The racing was world class - very exciting and on a pefect course - and the facilities here are top notch. Between races, there is plenty to do on the grounds - food, drink and shopping stalls abound. It's a great family atmosphere and not at all touristy.

Highly recommended as a day out either for racing fans or for people who want to spend a leisurely day at a beautiful facility.

Fabulous and family friendly racing experience
Aug 2015 • Family
Hoppegarten racecourse is in the most beautiful green and wooded setting and easy to get to on the S5 line. We went on a sunny Sunday afternoon and after the heat of the city, it was lovely to spend the afternoon in the countryside, sampling from the many food outlets and betting on the easy to learn German betting system. For novices like us (we only bet a few euros at a time), it was a fun family friendly afternoon with a terrific atmosphere as we cheered on our horses along with the rest of the crowd! Bring a rug for a picnic and a camera if you want to take photos of the beautiful horses. This is, as Wallace might say, 'A Grand Day Out' for only 10 euros! We'll be back!

big crowd's great atmosphere

We go to Berlin at least once, sometimes twice a year primarily for the wonderful Berlin beer festival held yearly, late July early August and while we are here if the racing is on at either HOPPEGARTEN or MARIENDORF RACE TRACK'S alway's make a point of having a good day out at the race's.
On our last trip to Berlin we attended Germany's richest race ,HOPPERGARTENER SUMMERPRIES , and what a great day we had,big crowd's, beer gardens, food stands bands playing, just a wonderful atmosphere.
I have been to most every racecourse in the United Kingdom and this is up there with some of the best , my local racecourse Aintree, could learn a thing or two especially about pricing, €10 general admittance and up to €25 for fantastic grand stand seating.
Getting a beer is no problem ,lot's of stand's and bar's and as for the food, amazing variety on offer, pork disher'ssausage of every kind, delicious outdoir meal's.
Betting is simple, getting a winner not so simple but that's horse racing.
Looking at the programme there are 11 day's racing, mostly from April to October predominantly on Saturday, Sunday and Monday's.
Getting here is a doddle, jump the S5 to end of line HOPPEGARTEN (MARK) walk straight down BAHNHOFSTRASSE and your at the racecouse.
Great racecourse and a wonderful day out.

For Thoroughbred Horse Racing Fanatics
May 2014 • Solo
Being a horse racing tragic, I first attended a Race Meeting at the Rehnnbahn Hoppegarten in 1991 and attended again in 1996 and 2008. It was very primitive on my first visit which was only just over 2 years after the Berlin Wall came down.
While it has been considerably improved,it is still not up to the standard of most of the Provincial race tracks in Australia and unless you pay for the priority area it is a steep climb to the top of the Grandstand which is more or less in original condition and has no escalators or elevators.. There are however two new stands under construction and it is pleasant to stand on the expansive lawn in front of the main Grandstand.
No public restaurant, but many fast food wagons with German Specialties. If you enjoy horse racing this is a good day out and easy to get to by S-Bahn

Horse races as it should be !!
Sep 2013 • Couples
First time in Berlin, we wondered if it was worth the bother of trying to get to Hoppegarten races, thinking it would be a lot of trouble getting there. It was rather easy! straight through on line S5 to Hoppegarten (end of the line) and then a mere 300 yards from the station. (you need a zone c ticket on the train)
Throughout the day there was a German band on in the bandstand and there was a very relaxed feel ,thankfully no stag do's or gangs on the lash.We paid 10 euros to get in, it was 25 to get a seat in the grandstand. It was easy to get a drink or food between races and the viewing was great as it was not that crowded.
It was a lovely course surrounded with woodland , well worth a visit
