Neighborhood: Friedrichshain
When you arrive at Warschauer Strasse in the heart of the district, you have found one of Berlin’s party hotspots. At night in Friedrichshain, the energy is palpable and the streets of this old worker's quarter are full of street musicians. On one hand, you may find a bar with international crowds, electronic music, long lines and panoramic views - on the other, an outside venue by old train yards featuring decrepit buildings and live alternative music. No matter your taste, the best way to end a night out in Friedrichshain is sitting by the Spree River at the East side gallery, the longest and best preserved piece of the Berlin Wall, watching the sun rise over the beautiful Oberbaum Bridge.

Its probably the best looking bridge in Berlin and worth a walk across. The best views of it are probably from the East bank of the river, accessible through the gates in front of the Universal Music building to one side. As for the bridge itself, due to the number of homeless people who have taken up residence on it, its not the most comfortable walk across - you are unlikely to get any hassle but there is lots of broken glass and the viewing points on the way across clearly see so much use as a toilet, there really isn't any way you want to spend much time, if any taking in the view from it.

What can you say? It's sooooo German. It's what people think of when they think of German architecture. Sadly, Berlin really is not the city to go looking for lots of that for all the historical reasons. This bridge though is a gem. I had the luxury of staying in the boat hotel nearby, having a cabin which window fronted the river and the bridge. Waking up every morning to the river sounds and the bridge was incredible. I love that bridge.

When you visit the East Side gallery you can look at this bridge nearby. It was builded at the end of the 19the century. During the Cold War it was the border between Friedrichshain in East Berlin and Kreuzberg in West Berlin.

Probably the most beautiful bridge in Berlin. U-bahn station near each end so easy to get to and next to the start/end of the Eastside Gallery (depending on which direction you walk it). Possibly not worth a special visit on its own (unless you love bridges) but if you’re in the area it’s definitely worth seeing

Visit Duration: 30 minutes.
Designed it in the North German Brick Gothic style of a city gate with many decorative elements, Oberbaum Bridge is a double-deck bridge over the River Spree. The lower deck of the bridge carries a roadway. The upper deck of the bridge carries Berlin U-Bahn. Seven-arched concrete bridge with a granite and brickwork façade characterize its distinctive architecture. The two towers near the center are strictly ornamental.
In April 1945 the bridge middle section was blown up in an attempt to stop the Red Army from crossing it. After the war ended, Berlin was divided into four sectors. The Oberbaum Bridge crossed between the American and Soviet sectors. When the Berlin Wall was built in 1961 the bridge became part of East Berlin's border with West Berlin and became a checkpoint from West to East only.

OMG
We went there without any infos.
Strange ppl everywhere , punkies .
Every one there had a bottle of alcohol in their hands. We spent there 10 minutes only and left ASAP. The metro station was even worse every one looked like drug dealers or alcoholic.

Beautiful bridge in Berlin near the club Watergate.
If you would like to watch it in the night that would be a beautiful view.

Walked across the bridge. Average architecture, and not a great neighbourhood. Photos look nicer than it is.

We walked over the river on the bridge. We didn’t feel uncomfortable or had any problems. Walk on both sides and don’t forget to look at the ceiling under the bridge.

Kann es sein, dass die in TripAdvisor angegebene Position wie so oft KOMPLETTER BULLSHIT ist? Das ist mitten in einem Wohngebiet, mehr als 3,2 km (!) von der Brücke entfernt!
