- Sue77777United Kingdom191 contributionsSuperb History of the Bunker and how the war evlovedA warm welcome by bi lingual staff. We had the audio guide having left our coats and bags in the free lockers. No photos at all and the whole area covered by CCTV. Not sure why you couldnt take photos I guess so as not to get idiots glorifying things You really need to fully understand just how much time you need there as on paper You think a few hours, reality is a whole day wouldn't even cover it Masses of highly informative displays of material that really help to convey how events unfolded. The question how did we let it happen really is enforced with the way events unfold and to be honest even as a history buff I left knowing so much more and even asked myself how did so many stand by Great narratvie and superb english on the material. Shame no drink area as you need a cuppa afterVisited November 2022Written December 4, 2022
- Rachel38 contributionsFantastic exhibition, so much to seeFantastic exhibition covering the rise of Hitler and the path to World War. The information is well laid out, with a really simple and easy to take in format. The information was clearly well researched and a lot of thought had gone into it. The audioguide was a nice addition with some extra info/context, however not so much that you couldn’t read for yourself. There was a lot of of sentsitve information however, often graphic images with no warning until you walk in the room - not a problem, but might be for more sensitive people. We did it in two hours, and we were going through at a brisk pace. Thoroughly recommend!Visited December 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten December 5, 2022
- kbcanberraCanberra, Australia43 contributionsGreat explanation of Hiltler's rise and fall, and history of this bunkerWe intended to spend 2-3 hours but to our amazement we spent 5 hours at the exhibition!! The information about the physical bunker building was interesting, in context with the local Anhalter railway station and Hitler's bunker located nearby. However the explanation of how Hilter rose to power and then Germany in the second world war and WW2's impact on Germany and Berlin was particlarly interesting to me. The headset narration was interesting but the english / german story boards were more useful and coherent.Visited December 2022Written December 11, 2022
- hazzamarri2442Sydney, Australia289 contributionsFabulousAn absolutely fabulous museum with a fabulous timeline of events leading to the rise of Hitler starting from his childhood. My only complaints are the lack of seating and the temperature. It was -2° outside so I don’t understand why they had cold fans blowing. I put my coat in the cloak room because I assumed there would be heating not cooling… I was uncomfortable and FREEZING the whole time. I’m reality I could have gone and got it but kept thinking “surely it’s nearly done”. I underestimated the museums size. But still. It’s fine if there is no heating but please turn off the cooling!! There were seats, but it was normally one per room and often taken. We were there over 2 hours and I didn’t even read everything, not even close. You could spent 5 hours there easily, I think more seats are needed. My complains are only mentioned incase the museum reads my review. For potential visitors reading, my stance is it’s fabulous and the best museum in Berlin. GO!Visited December 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten December 13, 2022
- LocutusZurich, Switzerland277 contributionsWorth a visitThe Bunker Story is really two separate museums over 3 floors of a WWII bunker. The first museum focusses on the rise of National Socialism, Hitler and WW2. The second museum focusses on Germany post 1968. There is a lot of information in the museum and it takes some time to get through. It’s very informative. The audio guide is ok but most of the information can be found on the Information boards etc on the walls. There is a mock-up of the living room of Hitler‘s bunker together with a large numbers of photos of what the bunker looked like. The second museum, on Germany post 1968, is smaller but nonetheless quite interesting. No photos are allowed and there are lots of steps (up and down).Visited December 2022Traveled with familyWritten December 23, 2022
- Sula213Christiansburg, Virginia20 contributionsDeep Dive into WWII German HistoryMy friend and I went into the bunker museum and took the audio tour (his was in German and mine was in English) at our own pace. The audio tour was different in that it was told from a first person point of view from the person who put together the exhibit. I don’t know that it was necessary to do the audio tour since the captions for the pictures were so thorough, but I liked having both available. We were both thoroughly engrossed. It was a deep dive into the history of the Third Reich and the Holocaust, so it was a lot to take in (and deeply disturbing at some points—obviously not unexpected, considering the subject matter). We both discussed having learned new information, despite having been to many other museum exhibits before. We were surprised to find that five hours had passed and it was dark outside when we left the building! Highly recommend.Visited December 2022Traveled with friendsWritten December 23, 2022
- Ishta AtukundaKampala, Uganda44 contributions1 of the Best Museum Exhibits EverOne of the most thorough, engaging and overall powerful museum exhibitions you will ever see. Not only do you walk away with very clear and well thought-out answers to its central question, "Hitler - How could this happen?" But you arrive at these conclusions on your own because the Berlin Story Bunker has perfected the Show, Don't Tell advice that's usually given to filmmakers. It is a photo exhibit after all. If you can only choose just one experience in Berlin to give you a good understanding of Germany's complicated past - choose this. You won't regret it. Do come prepared to walk a good 5km at least, it is meticulously detailed, and plan for a minimum of 3 hours. Also, while I did see a few kids under 9 there, I would recommend this for ages 10 and above only because it involves so much walking and reading.Visited December 2022Traveled with friendsWritten December 28, 2022
- guusgeurtsAmsterdam, The Netherlands3 contributionsImpressive.Excellent and very impressive exhibition of the history and root causes of the support of a big majority of German people for Hitler and the nazis. I spend four hours until closing time so I regret I missed the 1968-exhibition at the same place. It's a pity you can't take photos, and don't understand why, because more awareness on this is very welcome. Also a very good book store.Visited January 2023Written January 25, 2023
- TravelBrianCOPearland, Texas857 contributionsWowAn unprecedented look into the life of Hitler. The vast majority of the exhibit focuses on his rise to power, with the end sections dedicated to WWII. Audio guide is included and is necessary to absorb the information presented. You can easily spend hours here reading through all of the panels. It is mainly pictures and reading, with some artifacts. All set up inside an old concrete bunker. Well worth the visit.Visited February 2023Traveled soloWritten February 5, 2023

Excellent use of audio guides in many languages. Pitched in a really informative yet not dull way so that out 12 & 15 year old also got a lot out of it. Would highly recommend. Allow around 2-2.5 hours to listen to all of the audio. There is no food/drink facilities on site.Visited February 2023Traveled with familyWritten February 13, 2023

Our visit focused on the 'Hitler: How Could It Happen?' side of the bunker. We bought a ticket for both sides, however the exhibit was so immersive that we spent well over an hour just in that half!
The exhibit lays out in clear terms the history of Germany and the rise of Hitler from the late 19th century up to the end of the Second World War. It isn't afraid to use facts to debunk conspiracy theories and highlight where the Allies could and should have done more to reduce the suffering faced by Jews and others under the Third Reich.
You can choose to focus in greater detail on areas you are most interested in and skip others - it is all of a very high standard and I left feeling I had learnt a lot. Would recommend to anyone with even a passing interest in history.

Plan to spend several hours in this multistory bunker that provides a detailed account of how and why Hitler and the Nazi party rose to power in Germany. There are a number of fine museums of the Nazi era in Berlin and this is one of the best. Well worth a visit.

I loved this museum. We only did the Hitler - How could it happen side as we had visited other museums already which gave us the history of Berlin. I would suggest you have the audio guide too otherwise it is a lot of reading which can be quite tiring. We spent almost 3 hours there and felt it was well worth the money. Yes it is off a main road not near public transport stops but it’s only a short walk from Potsdamer Platz. It is well sign posted off Stresemanstrasse. The museum gives a very honest account of how Hitler and the Nazi party came to power. Well worth a visit for anyone taking GCSE history.

This was a very interesting and informative exhibition. The audio guide is very detailed and arguably a little too long so I would suggest not listening to every single section if you are short on time. The ticket will include access to both 'Hilter: how could it happen" and the Berlin Story Musuem which shows the post war history of Berlin. Because the first part took much longer than anticipated (2-3 hours) we had to skip through the second part quickly as we had plans later in the day. The bunker is a replica but does a very good job of showing what it would have been like. Would say this is definitely worth a visit if you have a spare afternoon.

Ok. First I had an impression that I slip through this but after first hour I realized it's going to take a while so there goes 3 hours minimum if you listen and follow the steps. The further in history it goes the more interesting it will be culminating with Hitler bunker replica. Should have more toilets though. I don't recommend that museum with kids, it's too long and mostly listening and reading, it's not a spy museum or legoland, nothing to play here, only dark history and mostly black and white pictures with surrounding concrete and metal doors. Feels like you're trapped inside bunker. Worth your money if you're interesed in history!

The Bunker is now privately managed and owned. You have to ensure you have a booking before hand to get a tour.
All the artefacts and stories of Hitler's Germany comes live when you are inside. The audio tour is amazing and you get to witness everything from that era. the only drawback is time. You are allocated just 2 hours for a tour and you have to ensure to make way for the next batch to come in.
In short a must visit.

An exceptionally detailed museum on WW2 which you could spend 4+ hours in looking at the information boards and listening to the audio guide - It is not one you can rush through. The stories of what happened in that particular bunker was especially interesting and you can still see the scar of where a bomb hit. We went in February and it got quite cold in places. I would recommend to those interested in German history and over the age of 16 as there are a lot of graphic images and descriptions throughout.

I’ve read the reviewer named Chrissie. Total nonsense. It was obvious before she went in what the intention of this museum is.
1. It is small and stuffy… it’s supposed to make you feel like you’re in a bunker! That’s obvious by the pre write ups I read.
2. Yes, it’s pictures with an audio guide… which museum isn’t?
3. The point is to try and help you understand how the Nazis got into power. Now short of watching Downfall and the amazing 6 part documentary series, The rise of the Nazis found on the BBC, I personally think this museum was wonderful…. Tragic…. It’s impossible to enjoy history and not feel a sort of bewildered tainted Gordy of modern Berlin… but that neither makes the museum nor the city not worth a visit.
4. Finally if Chrissie had bothered to research, then at the moment, Berlin has 72 hour welcome pass… which granted you must pay for… but it provides a discount to several museums… I made my money back in visiting three different places including Potsdam.
I think it’s only available during the Summer though.
5. Also, anyone visiting Berlin, until the End of August, you can but a travel ticket, that allows travel through all of August, including, trams, buses, underground and to the entire country for just 8 euros.
6. It’s very long, not advisable for kids… I was not able to reach the post 45 period as I’d spent too long reading the Nazi stuff. My 11 year old was upset by the Topography of Terror so I went to this museum without her.

When we first went to visit the lady at the ticket desk said she would sell us tickets but wouldn't recommend it as they closed in less than 2 hours and you really needed 3 to get a full experience. We thanked her and returned the next day ( earlier!)
The audio guide is essential here to experience this properly. It is well laid out with each section telling a corresponding number to press. The photos were very well researched, emotional and harrowing on some occasions.
I would not recommend bringing children here despite some people doing so. My youngest child is 14 and a complete history buff but even he was affected by some of the images.
This tells the story of Hitler from birth through his childhood and rise through the ranks to how he became furher & his ultimate death. I really liked the audio and the personalisation of the storyteller. I felt invested in his life & family.
You are not allowed photos inside & there is not a toilet until the very end. We spent almost 3 hours here.

Me and my husband spent appr five hours in this very interesting and fantastic museum inside a bunker from ww2. It provides very good information from Hiltler’s childhood and up to the circumstances present in the 30s so that he could come to power. Very authentic. There are photos, posters, films and various exhibitions. Everything is very well marked throughout the rooms and floors. The head phones is a must and you should bring a jacket because of the cool temperature inside the bunker.

The website states that this is not wheelchair accessible. Are there lots if places to sit through the Hitler how did it happen bit? Is there somewhere we could leave the chair at the start while we visit?

Hello
There is a ramp up from the outside courtyard to the exhibition entrance where you can possibly leave a wheelchair. After the entrance desk you have to climb stairs. I don't think there are any lifts. Some rooms have a seat in the corner but most of the time you have to stand. It can also get very hot. There is one toilet on the same level as the entrance. We were on our feet for over 3 hours so you need plenty of water with you.
If you can manage the bunker is very interesting.
Best wishes

It's a very wordy set of displays. Limit the visit to one hour for children, and scribble down a list of no more than six rooms that would keep their interest. And remember, it's only Berlin from 1918 onwards, with focus on the Third Reich.
