We took two tours back to back with Jana inm 2017 I mid October , whom we adored. She is an excellent architectural and art historian who did a great walk for us about Karl Frederick Schinkel. We began at the Neue Wache Guardhouse, and wandered past Schinkel’s Gothic Revival church, the Konzerhaus, and saw the site of his brick office building now being recreated. The visit into the Humboldt Forum Box to look at the great diorama of the city in 1900 helped provide good context about Schinkel’s role in town planning and creating iconic buildings of the era.

After lunch we went with Jana on the train to see Bruno Taut’s 1923 Horseshoe Estate, one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites illustrating social housing experiments in the interwar period. We did not go inside any of the apartments, but walked around the rows of apartments, and houses, all in a garden suburb. The site is well maintained and a landmark so the exteriors are protected. Jana provided a running commentary about Taut, and others who were building these housing estates out in the S ban stations outer ring of Berlin to provide new decent houses with small plots for vegetable gardens for factory workers escaping the slums of Berlin. Built by a nonprofit run corporation, the houses have been sold to individuals and are no longer lower income dwellings. The apartments now are all market rate. Jana supplied floor plans, master plans for the estate to show development and differences between the various sectors of the estate. She is an excellent guide and answered our questions thoroughly and with good humor. We would recommend her without question for anyone seeking a Berliner’s perspective on their city, its architecture, history and past.

My husband and I enjoyed several tours with Panorama b while on a business trip to Berlin in late October. Jana, the owner, gave a wonderful tour of the Bundestag that my husband said was extremely interesting and entertaining. While my husband and his group did this tour, I did a walking tour which started at the Brandenburg Gate along Unter der Linden and Charlottenstrasse to the Gendarmenmarkt with another small group. Our guide was a very knowledgable American who has lived in Berlin most of her adult life. She had tons of anecdotal information to provide about how it was living in Berlin during the cold war. She worked for the American Embassy-- which was located on the East German side--and told us a lot of interesting stories that one certainly wouldn't find in a guide book. The only drawback was our guide misunderstood the timing of our tour and ended it one-hour early. On other days Jana took us to visit Museum Island, a tour of the West Side including lunch at KaDeWe and on our last day Pottsdam. Jana and her engaging, knowledgeable group know how to make each tour enjoyable and memorable.
