Germany is a second wave, so it is very bad or dangerous to see staff and in particular the manager not wearing masks.
The Manager is wondering around with no masks around all the tables and standing over the guests and food. Worse his close friends seem to also be allowed to walk around without masks. One of them, after a mask less chat, able to go over to the cake fridge and help himself to many slices of cake to take home. Again without a mask he was breathing all over the cakes and handling them.
The kitchen staff and bar staff are also not wearing masks. Why should they when the boss does not? 2 sort of had a mask on their chin but utterly useless.
To be fair there were some very stressed serving staff running backwards and forwards. They wore masks. Their life was just made worse by not enough serving staff so they were running and then the stupid mask less manager standing in the way and also prioritising his friends over waiting customers. There are not enough serving staff to keep up with demand but the small team that were there were doing their best to serve and deal with customer complaints at the same time.
Due to bad management from sitting to taking our order was 30 minutes. Drinks took another 15 mins to arrive. Food was sitting on the kitchen pass for 15 to 20 mins going cold. Occasionally maskless manager would walk over to it and breath on it but not bother to serve it. Food eventually made it to our table over 1 hour after we sat down. We were also treated to some random un-ordered drinks due to chaos at the bar.
Also the toilets were disgusting, smelly and unclean.
Don’t go here until there is a change of management.

This is about the restaurant, not the selfservice biergarten.
It started with our reservation for 3 not being on the list, but we got a table anyway. Menus did not come until we asked for them. We ordered starters and mains. After 50 minutes we politely asked whether everything was ok with our order, waiter went to check, but no response. When we asked him after a while he said the order had been delayed a bit. After over 1 hour the starters came, one was wrong. Before the right starter had be brought the mains dishes were served. Food was good, however the medium steak was a bit overcooked but quality was good.
When I asked for the bill and I mentioned I wanted to pay by card, I got the payment machine in front of me and waiter walked away without presenting the bill, which I wanted to see to be sure the wrong starter had not been charged. So we had to chase him to see the bill. Turned out it was.not charged.
It is a pity that a restaurant experience at such a nice location and with good food is ruined by a kitchen that cannot get the food out timely and ignorant staff. And it was not just us, other tables around us has similar issues.
Go to the selfservice biergarden, don’t waste your time and money on the restaurant.

I paid 5.50 Euros for a tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream and two strawberries. This is ridiculous. I am highly disappointed by this place and won‘t recommend it. There are far better places where you get better food that costs less.

Went to this beautiful place for the Tiergarten tress-and-water view but spent all our time people watching a vast array of summer-joyful Germans enjoying the delicious food at rows of tables outdoors, adjacent to a biergarten with even more people. We ordered salads because of a late lunch and early concert, each of which was delicious, fresh and original. Our wait staff person was cheerful and kind, took our phones to be recharged. A perfect evening for American tourists.

We have visited the restaurant several times for lunch or breakfast.
The place is beautiful but it seems that the staff doesn't even know the basic rules of politeness.
The last time we went to celebrate a birthday there, it was the height of rudeness. The waiter who served us, apart from being curious and rude during the evening, at the end he didn't hesitate to insult us because he wanted more tips. We have never had such inappropriate behaviour before. It totally destroyed the whole evening!
The staff needs training!
Next time we will visit ONLY the Biergarten.

Visited for breakfast one September morning, Lovely walk through the garden to this beautiful lakeside setting. Seating was inside until 11. We ordered a Vegan breakfast and a Breakfast CANS - these were huge boards of delicious foods that we failed to finish. Absolutely delicious. Good coffee and tea too. I would love to try the beer garden one summers evening too so we have a very good reason to return to Berlin.

Such a shame. We had a very disappointing meal this evening. My husband’s calamari had ‘deep fried plastic bag’! We complained to the manager, who basically ran off and palmed the incident off to a colleague to handle. When we approached the ‘manager’ to state our displeasure in the incident, he said it was ‘sinew/tenden’. We can assure you. It was not! Really disappointed in the lack of apology, and the fact that manager couldn’t handle the situation. We were ALL put off our meal. Disgusting!!!! Would NEVER return!!!

Great location, great food but customer service disaster ! It’s a shame because it’s a great place . But the service is so bad that the other plus’s just aren’t enough to make it a worthwhile experience .. approach with caution ..

We stumbled across this hell hole on a walk, On first appearances it looked brilliant, pretty location by the lake and in the sun, How wrong I was.... Filthy, Rude and Overpriced!
I have good gasp of the German language, we ordered 3 coffee and 3 cakes, The coffee arrived 15 minutes later but no sign of the cakes, another 15 minutes no cakes, so I got up and found the waitress, who told me to wait a minute, about 2 minutes later after she had dealt with another annoyed customer, I explained in German, our cakes haven't arrived and our coffee is cold. Before I could explain she turned her back on me and walked off, I thought she had gone to talk to her boss but after a few more minutes I followed her to find she had cut the cake and was about to bring it to us.
I stopped her and said had she bothered to listen to me, I would have been able to tell her, we can't wait any longer, we don't want our coffee it's cold nor the cake..
She said okay, I have to talk to my boss. I walked back to the table to get my stuff on the way out she gave me a bill for the coffee and cake!
You can imagine what happened next, sadly I reached my German ranting wall and asked to speak to someone in English.
End Result they wouldn't allow us to leave without paying for the 3 cups of coffee which we didn't drink as they went cold but had been served to our table. It seemed it was our fault the coffee went cold!
As you can see I am not the first person to point out their poor service and rudeness...

We chose to book an early supper at Cafe am Neuen See on the last day before the new lockdown rules (starting 2 Nov 2020). On their website they stated that they respected the Covid safety rules. However, our visit proved completely the opposite. Firstly we were not asked to fill in the required Covid contact details that every restaurant we have been to since May has required.
The manager/owner greeted us at the door without a mask. He did not seem to understand that we had booked and took 10 minutes to clean a table for us (whilst chatting to friends and wasting time). We sat down and it then it took 30 minutes to even place an order. The drinks arrived 15 minutes later (45 minutes into our visit). It took a further 35 minutes to get our food.
Whilst we were waiting we had ample time to see the chaos in the restaurant. The Manager/owner spent huge amounts of time strutting around the restaurant like a peacock, maskless against all the current Covid gastronomy guidelines, encouraging favoured friends to wonder maskless through the restaurant passing multiple tables. One of these "favoured guests" kept walking around maskless and then went into the cake display case and helped himself cutting multiple pices of cake which he then gathered to take home using foil from the kitchen.
All the kitchen staff did not wear a mask. Food was served and left as they say to "die on the pass" that is placed ready for customers and then left to get cold. We saw one chef/kitchen guy without a mask pour 3 bowls of soup which to our shock sat for almost 20 minutes on the pass before being served. You could see that the heat/steam had gone and the soup was undoubtedly cold. Pizzas, burgers sat there for a long time without being served. At one stage, the Head Chef came by and banged the service bell impatiently for the food to be collected but really it was like the blind leading the blind. The chefs you could see were working in a lazy, unprofessional way and the Head Chef obviously had no control over them.
The poor undermanned waiting staff - all wearing masks and trying to serve 16 tables indoors and countless out doors - were unable to keep up. The manager/owner kept side tracking and delaying the waiting staff to deal with his personal friends who wandered around the restaurant maskless and without respect for their fellow diners.
I have been a loyal customer of Cafe am Neuen See for 11 years for its wonderful location and despite always being a bit chaotic, today's experience was truly shocking.
I believe that if the current management is not replaced then this place will gather more and more negative reviews. We will certainly never visit again when they reopen after the Lockdown. We feel for the poor waiting staff who wore masks and worked tirelessly to try to offer service and were near to breaking point withe the terrible management.
This restaurant should be sanctioned by the authorities for their failure to adhere to hygiene regulations and also the management should be sacked. A truly depressing and disappointing visit.

Hello, We are a party of 13 and want to visit then be picked up afterwards. Where is the nearest car park for a taxi?

I recommend giving the Spanish embassy or Hotel Stue as a pickup spot... 3 min walk from the restaurant!
