Neighborhood: Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighborhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.

This somewhat alternative gem is located in the middle of the trendy Prenzelberg district. A lot of things have been brought together in the areas; A free visit to the 'Alltags des Levens' museum is not to be missed. Here an image in all its diversity is presented about life in the GDR (1948-1989). This museum is much nicer and more extensive than the better-known GDR museum next to Museum Island. Moreover, this is free.

Beer used to be brewed here, and the Schultheiss brewery was based here. Today, there is a cinema, clubs, a theater, and numerous cultural institutions. The entire area with its historic industrial architecture is worth seeing, and it is particularly atmospheric at Christmas time, when the Lucia Christmas market opens here with various Scandinavian specialties. It's worth a visit!

I was at the Kulturbrauerei for the New Year's Eve party on 31.12.2024. We were full of anticipation and with 13 floors, of course, the expectation was high. In fact, it took us an hour to sight all the floors once. There was something for every taste, although everything was very full.
11.30 pm we got our jackets and wanted to go to the courtyard to see the fireworks. At 23.45 we stood in front of closed doors of 3 entrances to the left of the stage in the courtyard. We were locked up. Everything pushed out, everyone wanted to see the fireworks and no one had any idea why it wasn't going on in the front. It was pushed from behind, pushed. It didn't go forward or backward. Sometime just before midnight, a door opened because of the mass pressure. However, few were able to get out, the rest remained in this group. My inquiry to security at the open door, what the problem was, turned up "no idea." Yeah, sure, I saw the problem later. There were guardrails directly on the stairs, so that even here it was not possible to move on. As a result, I spent the turn of the year crammed together, huddled in a mass of people in the doorway lounge of the entrance, still losing contact with my people and having to contend with a panic attack. My companion was worse; she had a panic attack, already felt her ribs crack and was also touched. I don't know why the doors were closed without notice. Probably because not all people were sold to the cards, there was room in the courtyard. But all tickets were sold with spectacular fireworks included. So it seems that greed for profit has gone before safety here. The Kulturbrauerei institution was lucky on the day that the majority of the people affected were very young people, who assessed the situation as less threatening due to the considerable alcohol consumption. I think this could easily have led to a mass panic and then there would have been injuries, not just people who threw up afterwards or cried bitterly after the pressure subsided.
So we were very disappointed and regretted that we didn't choose the party at the Frannz Club. Because he didn't join the party at the Kulturbrauerei. There'll be a reason.
Still negatively noticed: Smoking was allowed in all rooms.

Probably some of the best beer I've experienced. Everything was wonderful. My wife had the Ceaser Salad and I had the roast pork special. The food was incredible band the service was very good. The historic building was beautiful. I would highly recommend if visiting Altstadt Heidelberg.

Good morning time to visit when everything closed due to Corona. Maybe not the best schnitzeles there, but definitely ok with beer and some curry. Good feeling of people around you. Yeah! This is Prenzlau! Waiting for the good sunny weather.

Walking in the Prenzlauer Berg area we discovered this great place by coincidence. I didn't even know this place existed. What a surprise! What you see is a completely renovated old brewery/factory wich is now a center for art (theatre, film, expositions,...). You can also have a cheap but very nice meal on the beautifull terrace. A popular place with lots of ambiance.

I live near this place and see it everyday. It certainly is quite charming and interesting to notice... the Christmas Market here is cozy.. but otherwise I wouldn't go out of my way to see it!

I prefer this than the bigger, commercialised markets which are more crowded. This is also crowded, but it tends to be local crowds. You can find good desserts, and most of all good gluhwein here - a bit more festive local shops - definitely go to this one.
