What a Night.

Wow, if you are a groundhopper and you have never been here this a must. Reminded me so much of football in the early 90s back in England. The place bounces. We got off at Splindersfeld and walked over the river straight to an ace brew house. Kopenick is a pretty little place, great walk to the ground. I really hope they get promotion to the big time as their fans really deserve it. Eisern Union :)

Eisern Union v Heidenheim
Oct 2018 • Friends
Located about minutes from central Berlin via the s-bahn, Union's ground is a sight for eyes sored by modern football. Three sides of the Stadion An der Alten Försterei are open terraces, packed with Union's passionate and boisterous followers, the way football was, always should be and critically still is across Germany.

We got into the ground with a little over half an hour to kick off and were just able to secure a spot on the terrace behind the goal towards the edge of the 18 yard box. As we drank the 4 EUR pints of pilsner on the concrete steps the time passed in the blink of an eye as the ultras prepared the mosaic for the entrance of the home team.

Locals and regulars told us that the atmosphere wasn't as good as it can be, the early afternoon kick off on a Sunday seemed to be the working theory behind that belief. However, the chanting and singing was solid throughout the 90 minutes then, as Union went behind, the noise and support was ramped up a notch or two until a last minute equaliser from the goal keeper Rafał Gikiewicz, right in front of the Union ultras, released an explosion of noise and joy from all around the ground. EISERN UNION.

It was a joy to see the crowd stay as the players showed their appreciation of the support provided by the those on the terraces. It was certainly deserved.

Union Vs Nuremberg
Jan 2018 • Solo
The stadium is located in the Kopenick area of Berlin a roughly 30 minute train ride from central Berlin. The walk from the train station to the stadium is roughly about 10 minutes long but on the journey there are a few fan bars which are definitely worth getting into Kopenick early so you can visit them before the game. The stadium is really small and has a certain charm to it which the modern stadiums don't have. 3 sides of the stadium are standing terraces which means tickets are cheap and make the experience much more interesting than any other football stadium. My ticket was located close to the away fans so I didnt get to sample the home support as much as I would have liked so I would definitely recommend trying to get tickets closer to the Union Ultras section instead for a better experience. The beer is Berliner Pilsner which is really nice and strong and like most German stadiums you can drink it whilst watching the game.

Great football experience!

Although stadium is some distance away from city center, I highly recommend going to game. Stadium is old and ugly but atmosphere is marvelous! I have visited many football matches around the world and I have never seen such a fanatic fans. They were shouting and sinning through the whole 90 minutes of game. Ticket price is reasonable and best part is, that in Germany you can enjoy refreshing beer while sitting at your seat, so no need to stand in queue at halftime.

Football tradition at its best

Union Berlin plays an half hour local train (S3) trip away from the busy downtown Berlin. After that there is a one kilometer walk on local roads. No fancy services along the way. Bear, sausages etc are certainly available. It is all worth it though. Great atmosphere. The pitch seemed to be in excellent condition. Be on time since the security takes time and there are only a couple of entrances. Beer and simple food offered at the stadium at reasonable price levels.

A Magic start to any Christmas.
Dec 2015 • Friends
The traditional Christmas Carol concert is a magic event . German football tribalism plus the use of carols produced an evening never to be forgotten.
Tickets are easy to purchase often on sale outside the ground at knock down prices.

Some advice...
Apr 2016 • Friends
The stadium and club have a great friendly reputation. We arrived from London and spoke to many fans in and around the ground. We had drinks together and sang songs and generally enjoyed a good German football atmosphere. HOWEVER in the club bar after the game we were approached by a number of individuals dressed in black North Face jackets. They made it clear they did not want us there and were determined to cause trouble.

My advice would be to go to the stadium but be respectful to the passionate fans. In hindsight, ten guys from another country, drinking and singing at their football match was perhaps not the best idea.

Thankfully we avoided trouble but would advise being careful.

Great atmosphere and makes live football an amazing experience. Make sure you go in the terraces, Beer is also very reasonably priced but as with everywhere in Berlin bring cash.
