I went Dec 30 - perhaps not the best day as everyone was stocking up for New Year's Even. Very, very crowded - but still fun to browse. The supermarket is the biggest Asian one I've seen in Berlin.

Unlike most hipster markets in Berlin, Dong Xuan Center is neither located outdoors in a park nor in a big beautiful space like the Markthalle IX. In fact, this center consists of a bunch of frankly quite ugly big white halls filled with tiny stalls. Therefore, unlike any Chinatown I've seen in other cities, the Dong Xuan Center actually looks, feels and smells like the cramped, busy markets I've experienced in China. Even if you are not up for getting a manicure or a 7€ haircut or buying fake merchandise, it's an experience just to walk around the market. Furthermore, the place has several great Asian grocery shops where you can indulge in exotic treats.

We also went to the Dong Xuan Center because we heard that that is where the best Vietnamese food in Berlin can be found. We went to the Duc Anh restaurant in Hall 3, as we had been told it is the most authentic restaurant in the Center. Indeed, the pho soup was exquisite, and the green tea we ordered was the best I've tasted since visiting a tea plantation in China years ago. The service was efficient, almost on the verge of being aggressive, but everything was delicious and served so quickly that I have no complaints.

One of the greatest perks of the Dong Xuan Center is perhaps the opening times. We visited on New Year's Day, as most things in Berlin were closed. German shops and many restaurants are closed on standard Sundays as well, but the only day of the week the Dong Xuan Center is closed is Tuesday.

This place has a very interesting mix of places to spend your money. If you need small electronics (I bought an mobile USB) or kitchenware, you'll probably find what you're looking for here. I wouldn't recommend it as a touristy place unless it's a rainy day or you need something or like to browse big markets. (Think generic things made in Asia and sold wholesale.)

I cook a lot, and found this place heavenly. A great variety of fresh veggies, herbs, and ingredients that are difficult to find in Germany. After walking through all the front markets (1-10), I did my shopping at the market in the building 1. It was huge and I got a variety that I couldn't find in the various Asian supermarkets in Mitte. Pan Asian goods! They have a variety of fresh fish and seafood--the fish didn't seem to be in the best shape, but I went later on Saturday. Not sure when they get their shipment. Although, they did have live crabs.

I ended up eating at the big restaurant at the front of the center. Everyone's food looked great and smelled amazing. I had the pho b/c it was a bit chilly. It had the best broth I've had in Berlin so far. I've tried many many places in the city. All food seemed reasonably priced. I'll go back just to try the other restaurants and probably get a Banh mi for the road. It was so difficult to choose where to go!

And for the review that said the place didn't look clean, you can't really generalize the center as a whole as there are lots of different businesses. Also, you'd be surprised at what you don't see behind closed doors in any those restaurants you go to.

This was recommended by a Vietnamese waitress so we went along as she said that's where you get the best food if you are looking for real oriental food. It is an old industrial estate and the opposite of luxury but I love it. In different halls there are several restaurants, shops for food and clothes, hairdressers, beauticians, etc and the place where Vietnamese people living in Berlin go to. I had a great time and wish I would live around the corner to go there more often.
It's outside the city centre but easy to reach by the tram no 8 that stops right outside the main gate.

Although it is far outside the centre but easy to reach by public transport this is a real surprise in a not very attractive area of town. Here you find many halls full of clothes, food, hairdressers, nailshops and cheap kitsch all the way from Asia. It is all cheap stuff but great to wander around and look at all the cheap but fun stuff. It is almost if you are in asia. We loved it.

If you are a tourist, this is a hard miss, but if you are a Berliner shopping for food AND you know your prices then this can be a great place. I found some of the hard to find Asian greens, a Great price on frozen soft shell crab AND had a meal in the sun for a few euro.

Haircuts are cheap, but I did not choose one.

You can have some great Vietnamese food, but the shops are just a load of rubbish. 7 € haircut is ok too.

They sell groceries with extremely high price. The same item I found there for 3 Euro can be bought in other Asian supermarkets for 1.75 Euro near Alexanderplatz which much better quality. Bean sprout was written as 1 Euro / kg, I took less than 200 gram, shopkeeper didn't bother to try to find out the actual weight and charged me 1 Euro.

We visited on a Sunday, and were honestly not expecting much as almost all shopping centres in Germany are closed on Sundays.
What a surprise! Full and busy with a real vibe of 'Little Vietnam', in a city seemly lacking any 'china town'.
The prices of wares are not normally marked, and I don't know if bargaining is allowed, so I have the feeling we paid to much for what we brought, which is a shame.
Even if you don't want to go shopping, just visiting for the cuisine is enough! We had the best Vietnamese food in Berlin there, and it was GREAT value, at 7€ for a MASSIVE bowl of Pho. I couldn't even finish it all, and had to share with my husband, and there was still leftovers!

Lots of exotic things to buy. Perfect if you're looking for some chicken feet or want to cool a live fish. All reasonably priced. Yeah

Excellent teA pot selection.
