We started the tour in snowy Berlin weather on 2d January at the end of our visit. I always hesitate on taking a bike tour (best way to understand a city) at the beginning or at the end of a visit. This time, as we...More

Best activity I did in Berlin and perhaps in any new city that I’ve visited in a very long time. The folks at Fat Tyre have organized this whole operation with utter precision, and yet it feels incredibly personalized. I thought my Canadian-born, bilingual tour...More

What a great way to see the city. Our tour guide was French, her English excellent, and the inclusiveness of the tour complete. The tour, including about hour for lunch, took over 5 hours, and it was worth the time, Not only did we see...More

Berlin is very bike friendly. There are designated bike lanes throughout the city. As a result, a bike tour is the easiest, best way to see the city. Our guide (Nate) was very personable and knowledgeable. Berlin is an unusual city. A guide is critical...More

Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighborhood has undergone a greater change
than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists
that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in
the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip
crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were
once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall,
there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have
been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays,

I am after some advice on best half day bike tours of Berlin. I was looking at the Day City Bike Tour run by Berlin City Tours. We would prefer a small group tour if possible. Would you recommend this tour? Thanks

Berlin bike tour in January (7 Replies)
Hi all, i am going to Berlin at the end of January, and I was thinking of visiting Berlin by bike. I am particularly interested to visit WW2 and cold war sites. My questions are: Is it too cold to cycle in this given month? Would you recommend a tour, or just discovering the landmarks with intution and a map? Any tour or bike rental shop recommended? Thanks

Check the weather forecasts before you go. Berliners are enthusiastic cyclists, but in the ten days between 28 December and 7 January I saw exactly two people on bikes - and one was wheeling his through the Tiergarten. If the cold weather continues and the vast quantities of snow (now a jumble of ice and grit) haven't disappeared, or if there is more snow, I don't think a bike tour is really on the cards.

Next week my 18yo son and I are visiting Berlin for the first time. We're there for a little over three days, arriving Sunday morning and departing via night train on Wednesday night. We're staying at the Hotel Pension Classic in Ku'Damm. My plan is to get a day pass when we arrive on Sunday, taking the X9 and U2 to drop off luggage at our hotel, then back onto buses 100, 200, and possibly M29 to tour the city on our jetlag day. (We'll need to get out and walk around to stay awake, too!)....More
