You'll find this Church on the Bebelplatz square, right behind the Berlin Opera and across the Humbolt University. Although not that famous as the Berliner Dom, the St. Hedwig is the seat of Archbishop of Berlin.
It was built in 18 century and severely damaged during WWII bombings of Berlin.
Interesting fact is that a German priest prayed for the Jews here during the Crystal night, after which he was sent to the concentration camp and died - his remains are in the crypt.

From the impressive crypt tombs to the elaborate carvings and grandiose interior, this cathedral is truly a sight to behold. Not to mention the vibrant colors and intricate details that make this place so special. I highly recommend a visit if you're ever in Berlin. You won't regret it!

The Cathedral is the oldest roman-catholic parish of the Archdiocese. It was severely damaged in World War II. Reconstruction started in 1952 and completed in 1963.
The lower church is for Mass when the attenders are fewer. The upper church is the main church. Benches are arranged in concentric circles concentrating towards the altar. This is quite exceptional. In crypts, there are Burials of German Roman Catholic priests and theologians, The interior design helps to create a solemn and peaceful atmosphere.
Photography is not allowed inside the Cathedral, Thanks to Tripadvisor, I can enjoy so many beautiful photos here.

This is a beautiful if unusual Catholic cathedral. First thing to be aware of is that many of the reviews below have mistaken this review page as the review page for the Berliner Dom - The Berlin Cathedral - which the Cathedral of St. Hedwig is not! Therefore, in the reviews below, when reviewers are talking about the "tour to the top of the cathedral" or the "entrance fee", they are actually talking about a different place.
This cathedral is very special. It has two levels, and effectively a different church seating area, the upper being used for large services, and the lower for small services. There are also several chapels on the lower levels, commemorating former cardinals, bishops, and other cathedral staff, including those active in the resistance against the Third Reich.
This is a very special cathedral, with a huge dome and oculus, making it unusually structured (and simple) for a catholic cathedral. But it is very special, spritual, and moving. I strongly recommend a visit. If you can, try to make an organi recital: the acoutisics is amazing!

We visited St Hedwig's to listen the regular Wednesday afternoon (3:30) organ recital. A large and impressive cathedral, there was ample room for seating, and the organ playing was magnificent. The organ itself is an imposing feature of the cathedral and has a majestic and rich sound which fills the space with surprisingly little echo. The program was Bach and Reger, so a mix of the old and (relatively) new.
A very pleasant way to spend an afternoon, and we left feeling refreshed (despite the hard wooden seats) and ready to face the rest of the afternoon. Recommended.

St Hedwig's Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral located at Bebelplatz. Not very impressive and it was locked.

I didn't go in but it was beautiful from the outside. It *is* a Catholic church (many were converted during the Reformation it seems) and finished in the 1770s It has been reconstructed and reconsecrated since heavy damage inflicted in WWII. On the opposite side of the Spree from MarienKirche and Nikolaikirche. Two streets north of the French Cathedral. It was in East Berlin for almost 50 years.

This is a Catholic Church, bombed during the war and restored. Many visitors seem to complain that it is not or should not be a cathedral. I cannot speak to that issue, but I can tell you that is certainly in my opinion worth a trip. It is very typically church-like outside with a nice dome, but the interior is very clean compared to the usual rococo melange. It is a peaceful interlude amongst the tourism.

The outside of the cathedral looks just like any old church in Europe so I expected the usual ornate interior with a gold overload.. I was pleasantly surprised when I entered. The inside was in the shape of a dome painted in some sort of slate gray color. There were no statues nor decorations on the walls behind the altar, just long slats of stained glass in geometric design, set several meters apart. The overall effect was serene and cool. This is the perfect place for some serious reflection and prayers.
My husband and I were lucky to have attended the Easter Sunday mass. It was what we call in my hometown, the 'misa cantada' where the priest's prayers and the faithful's replies are sung. What made this extraordinary was the awesome choir accompanied by what seemed like (to my untrained eye or ear) , a full orchestra. It was like being in the center of a spiritual and religious concert. The mass was so moving that I sobbed the whole time. This German lady, from across the aisle, in a gesture of understanding and unity, came up to me and gave me a hug I will remember forever. Thank you, Lady for showing me Berlin's heart.
I enjoin everyone to visit, and if possible, attend a service even if you are not Catholic. The choir is well worth it.

Quite interesting place to know Berlin and Germany from the different sides of their History. A lot of information related to the emergence of Protestant church, German Kings. Good audioguide options inside.
