The area
Address
Neighborhood: Schöneberg
In 1963, Schöneberg was the center of the political west, inspiring John F. Kennedy to choose this area to famously announce, "Ich bin ein Berliner." Times may have changed, but modern-day Schöneberg still pays tribute to its historical legacies. Once the richest city outside of Berlin proper, the area's affluent past is still visible in ornate housing facades dating back to the Gründerzeit of the 19th century, while residents in fur coats walking their dogs or shopping in high-end KaDeWe continue the tradition with a modern flair. Schöneberg was also once the center of the decadent and burlesque nightlife of the 1920s. It was here that Marlene Dietrich partied with Christopher Isherwood and the first gay bar in Germany was founded. Today, the gay community still revolves around Nollendorfplatz. The overground Ubahn station is even illuminated in rainbow colors, paying tribute to Schöneberg's progressive past.

COVID restrictions were enforced in a friendly manner. Clean as always and great staff that make you feel good. Prices are reasonable, just be aware it is cash only. The crowd on any day is very mixed in ages and styles, but it is mostly a man’s bar. The music is good, and doesn’t drown all conversation.

We are able to sit outside and be served. The staff was so nice and helpful as we didnt speak German. It is so much like going to your local hometown bar!

I've enjoyed myself each time I've visited this bar with gay male friends previously and was very much looking forward to a few drinks and a catch up on this occasion too.

After my second drink the bar manager/owner simply refused to serve me again, bringing me a glass of water each time I requested a drink. He refused to provide a reason why on several occasions and when my friend advised him that I was not drunk and asked whether it was "Because I'm a woman...?" He just walked away. To me, that means Yes.

I was made to feel extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome on this occasion and as a result I'll not visit this bar again. Such a shame as it was becoming a favourite of mine.

Beware of you are female. The owner doesn't want anyone but men to be seen in his precious bar. If he chooses to run the bar like something from the 1920's then good luck to him because it's not liberal, it's not cool and it's a sure fire way to lose good business.

This place is just a must when we’re in town. Regular (gay) guys like us or fetish all are welcome. The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy, drinks inexpensive and the staff very friendly.

Dirty. Not in a good way. This is my favourite gay bar in Berlin but they aren't cleaning tables AT ALL between customers and drinks are served at the table by the same person who just cleared the dirty tables. When asked about this they said they don't have enough staff and agreed it wasn't 'right' ! Bar staff are handling clean glasses, dirty glasses and not masked. High Covid 19 spreading risk.

Saturday night started quietly but the place filled up quickly after 8pm. A nice mixture of people came together, some in leather some in casual. The music wasn`t too loud so conversation could flow. The bar staff was fun and super friendly, maybe because I was one of the few women there?
Will definitely come back here for a drink next time I visit Berlin again.

My friends and I first visited Prinzknecht during Folsom Berlin 2019. We spent every evening here having beers prior to moving on to other clubs. It is a great place to meet other likeminded guys and have casual drinks. There's an indoor smoking room, plus a dark room downstairs for the more adventurous types. Probably my favourite bar I came across in Berlin, even if the ageing bartender did need an attitude check.

Tall guy with tattoo on arm of two lines had short changed me twice, had to call him out second time. Be wary. Other bar people friendly and glass collectors good. Good music and good area downstairs for “fun”. Nice crowd.
