A beautiful, leafy urban park in central Berlin. Well worth a visit for a bit of greenery and tranquility. There are multiple paths, lakes, bridges, statues, monuments and sculptures in this woodland park, but beware of the many cyclists who also use it.

The park is huge, will lots of different areas to explore. There are a couple of bier gartens and a boating lake (you can hire a rowing boat). The only thing that made me not give it 5/5 was the park authorities approach to litter; there is a lot of rubbish and the bins are unsightly skips, mostly overflowing. That's a shame as it detracts from an otherwise lovely experience.

Berlin's Tiergarten is large and spacious - a great green escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
It was quite busy when my partner and I visited, partly due to the good weather, but also lots of locals out jogging, walking their dogs, and enjoying the atmosphere.
This is a lovely place to spend a few hours and we very much enjoyed walking through the park.

On our way back to the city centre from Kurfurstendamm, we took our route through these extensive woods. First designed as a hunting ground for the Elector Friedrich III, they were largely destroyed during WW2, but have been very successfully replanted. We spent almost two hours wandering through these pleasant woods and lakes, including having a picnic. Beware the many cyclists who rush through.

It is great to have such a large green space in the city but it needs a lot of housekeeping to clean up the litter. We enjoyed the monuments and did a search for the Reagan memorial. We finally found it as a sidewalk insert. The Soviet victory memorial was so Russian in nature but impressive.

As city parks go, Tiergarten is quite large, green, has much to offer in walking paths, bike lanes, water bodies, sculptures, well maintained greenery. Quite a few places in the park allow for dogs running free, mind the poo. I also spotted a mangy fox. Utilitarian, green and large, that would best describe it.

"Tier" in German means "animal", so the translation of this enormous park would be the Animal park or the Zoo park. That's logical as the western part of it occupies the famous Berlin Zoo.
But, the Zoo is only a fraction of it, as the majority of the park is above the Zoo and the canal spreading all the way to Brandenburg gate, occupying a significant central part of German capital.
The center of the park is adorned with a terrific obelisk statue Sigessaulle, the Victory column, erected in honor of the victory in Prussian-Danish war. The park has many paths for walking or jogging, but due to its size, for visitors would be much better to rent a bike - the area is totally flat, so that way it'd easier to explore many monuments and memorials in it.

This is walkable from the Brandenburg Gate. We explored many walks inside the park and offers lovely peaceful treelined paths and small lakes.
We walked from the Brandenburg Gate to Victory Column which took a while but it waas a lovely walk. Its such a massive park that it was impossible to see it all.
Would definetly visit again!

We walked through the Tiergarten park a number of times between our hotel and our daily activities during our recent vacation in Berlin.
There was always a good combination of locals and tourists from around the world, which is something I like to experience.
We found the park to be pleasant, well maintained and safe at all hours.

Well this is Berlin's most spectacular feature, as far as I am concerned.
Almost a real forest in the middle of a City. We were so lucky that our Hotel bordered it & could go in almost everyday.
Any town planner would be well advised to visit this place.
One can almost walk around & feel quite alone amongst these huge trees & bubbling brooks.
There are these hidden cafes serving very simple fare at reasonable prices.
One can even cycle around at lesiure & not worry about mad cyclists racing the traffic lights!
Simply wonderful!
We were being followed at one point so be aware.

Can anyone tell me what time the boat hire opens? There doesn’t seem to be an official site or any opening hours for it online I can see. We were hoping to get a boat about half nine (am), but no idea if that would be possible!

From what we could see the boats start at 10.30 from around the top of Friedrichstrasse

I learn from the reviews that there are playgrounds inside the Tiergarten but cannot find any indication on the google map. Would someone be able to advise exactly where the playgrounds are located (maybe where is the nearest gate), and also what kinds of play equipment there? Thanks in advance!

This park is divided up by 4 roads with the Victory cross taking centre stage, you won't be disappointed there are boards up to tell you where you are and a list of what's in each section , there is even an English garden with a lovely restaurant however I did not recognise any of the flowers and was surprised no roses!, definitely a great free day out exploring
