The coolest place ever! I loved the street art at this place. A cool cafe too. It’s a museum but I was to fascinated of the walls full of art and pairings. I think this place is a must visit when you explore Berlin.

Grossehamburger Strasse and Oranienburger Strasse were the most interesting area of the city. Also in this area visit the Neue Synagogue. Not dear and full of interesting artefacts. You cab climb up to the dome.

Chanced upon this great building with a beautiful mosaic floor built as a girl school which now houses a dining room and a cafe. That "Neue Sachlichkeit" also was an architectural style came as a surprise. Checking it out on August Strasse.

It's so refreshing to get out of tourist sights and tourist areas and explore something artsy and refreshing. This is an adorable neighborhood full of galleries, cafes, and small boutique shops. Love it!

The Spandauer Vorstadt / Scheunenviertel remains one of the few areas in Berlin that has so far maintained its historical and architectural integrity with mostly sympathetic renovations of damaged buildings. Highlights include the Alte Postamt on Tucholskystrasse, the neue Synagoge (Oranienburgerstrasse), various art galleries (Auguststrasse and others), the Jewish Cemetery memorial (Grosse Hamburgerstrasse), the Sopiensaele (Sophienstrasse) and the many shops and restaurants around the Hakescher Hof (Rosenthalerstrasse). Despite much commerce the area still retains some of its bohemian character.

Arrive via Nordbanhnhof which was a 'ghost station' during the time of the Berlin wall. There is an exhibit as you exit on it. Then cross the road to Gedenstatte Berliner Mauer to visit the park plus information and view the death strip. It is well worth a visit.

This is the area around our Circus Hotel. This "barn quarter" saw major construction of large, courtyard apartment buildings in the early 1900s and was a center of Jewish life. Its side streets now provides many memories of those years, plus a lively set of chic art and craft shops, art galleries, graffiti, small sidewalk cafés, etc.

If you have at least 2 hours to spend in that neighbourhood, just take this advantage. You will be probably amazed from what you will find there. A nice combination of houses, art and structure.

The Scheunenvertel, or Barn Quarter, was originally the part of town to which hay barns were relegated to isolate fires when they inevitably caught alight. Over the years it became the center of Berlin’s Jewish community, a role that it has resumed with the post-unification immigration of about 10,000 Jews, most from Russia. Because rents were low, the Scheunenvertel also became to Berlin what the East Village was to New York in the 1960s and 1970s, a magnet for the young and bohemian. I found avant-garde art galleries, performance spaces and cafes. It was clear that the quarter was undergoing rapid gentrification and that before too long the twenty-somethings with multiple lip piercings and blue hair would have to find cheap digs elsewhere.
Among the not-to-be-missed landmarks in the quarter are the New Synagogue and the courtyards, one elaborately Art Nouveau, in the .Hackesche Hoefe

Great neighbourhood. Lots of to see and do and eat there. Just walk around all the streets and you find some fabulous courtyards turned into cafes and galleries. A very dynamic and up and coming neighbourhood. Would have loved to spent more time there.
