Nice little square to hang out, lounge on the spacious lawn, admire an artfully decorated piece of Mauer, admire the Potsdamer Platz skyline, sit on the concrete curb and watch the goings-on, not many normal sitting places to be found unfortunately, only one or two benches on the whole square. Anyway some shops open out on the square, as well as a couple of eateries, and, of course, it hosts the Mall of Berlin, a mid sized shopping mall with scores of shops and a sizable foodcourt. Nice place, the square, but kind of underwhelming.

Leipziger Platz is a big square next to Potsdamer Platz. The square got its current name in 1814 to commemorate the Battle of Leipzig.
The square was completely destroyed in World War II. During the Cold War, Leipziger Platz remained on the east side of Berlin, but it was an abandoned and closed border zone. The border and the Berlin Wall immediately passed from its west side through Potsdamer Platz.
After the reunification of Germany, the reconstruction of the square began. The square was restored to its original octagonal shape.

This is an octagonal square totally bombed during the WWII. Then it was kind of abandoned due to the Berlin Wall. Today it
is surrounded by modern buildings but it is just another square.

Chances are you are not going to notice it. However, the neighbourhood and the surroundings give this spot a special tone to it. It's new looking and very modern. I walked through this area and didn't even notice the plaza but I wasn't looking for it.
Low rating for the plaza but high rating for the neighbourhood.

Built on the pre war floorplan as this area was in the inter wall area. Seen this area being developed over the years and more buildings opening with attractions, such as the Espionage Museum and shopping as in the Berlin Mall.

In days gone by Leipziger Platz was historically once an important square and area, completely destroyed during WW2, left abandoned post war ,when the wall came down in 1989 and from the 1990's onwards this square was rebuilt, lots of shiny new buildings here ,the most notably features are the strange blue pipes ,its a transport hub ,nothing really that special but if you enjoy architectural styles it's most definitely well worth checking out if your planning a holiday to Berlin.

This is an very interesting Octagon plaza that is totally modern but based on the historic Octagon that was here in the heyday of Potsdam Platz between 1900-1945. Like much of the area it was leveled by the war and then serve as the boundary between East and West where the Berlin Wall ran through it. Over the last 30 years it has been redeveloped in the historic octagon shape. Kind of neat piece of geography and geometry to see in Berlin.

There are many modern buildings around here and less busy as compared to the nearby Potsdam Platz.
There are many overhead blue pipes around here, as they are used to transfer the water out from the underground during construction.

A little square on Potsdamer Platz. Not far from the Sony Centre.
You see some remnants of the Berlin Wall here, the coloured pipes overhead and some modernist buildings.
You also need to be careful. There were some sketchy people about doing the Three Card Monte hustle.

Leipziger Platz is actually just a square either side of Leipziger street. It's just grass surround by building on the edge. The mall of Berlin is just located off here though so just go there for shopping, or across the road to Potsdarmer Platz
