This was one of the busiest airports worldwide in the past and now open to the public for all sorts of activities. Also worthwhile entering into the the former airport building.

Evening visit to Tempelhof Park. Rented a bike for 6 Euros(hour). Had a great time here and it’s quite surreal biking on what used to be an airstrip!!! There were many tumours of bikes to rent, along with Segways, remote controlled cars and various other...More

A great big park on a former runway. I went to an event held here within the airport but there were lots of people on bikes or roller skates, with dogs and children and families. A nice place to hang out with friends.

Such a fantastic place!! When do you ever have the chance to walk on runway? It’s a great place to bbq with friends, just have a nap or do sports. Also perfect for pictures and to watch sunset. Many locals go there!!

Even though it’s a huge a flat area, it was originally part of both totalitary regime and also a window to the free world. Tempelhof has a unique part of the near history. Read and learn about it before going there. And then stand at...More

Now that it's a public park / recreation area, it's easy to forget how important this airfield was to Berlin during the blockade. One can almost imagine the drop of chocolate during those times. It is a happier place now and ideal for cycling, picnics...More

Hi, I don't think there is a equipment rental nearby, but there are some in Berlin anyway. Google Coronation Berlin Kiteshop, it's in Friedrichshain. Transit to Tempelhof by public transport is about 30min.

Photographer looking for quirky / unusual / hidden gems (14 Replies)
I am a photographer and I will visit Berlin at the end of July this year. I am looking for some “off the beaten track”, unusual and quirky or more hidden gems in and around the city. (some examples already on my list: Silent Green Kultur Quartier, tramroute 68, Wedding neighbourhood, Tempelhofer Park, Moabit neighbourhood) Any experts with some tips, advice, or suggestions to help me on my way? Suggestions may be as quirky and "off the beaten path" as possible, but any other suggestion...More

Hello everyone, I am planning a trip to Berlin at the end of this month and I have some issues figuring out how to get from the hotel to the airport. My hotel is on Tempelhofer Ufer, close to the U Möckernbrücke station. My plane leaves at 7 am from Schönefeld Airport and I can't really figure out how to get from the hotel to the airport at that time. I was thinking about leaving the hotel at around 4 am as I'm not sure yet how long the journey there takes. If I search that route on Google...More

We just returned from Berlin to the US yesterday and had a similar concern about early morning transit. Locals assured us that it does indeed run early in the morning, but we were still a little nervous about missing our flight. We pre-ordered at taxi through the my taxi app instead. You can select the place and time you want to be picked up. A taxi driver will message you when they have accepted your ride request. Our trip from Potsdamner Platz to Tegel cost $29 euro. For us, it was...More

Neukolln for 3 weeks? (13 Replies)
Hi Berlin lovers! Hoping for a bit of advice about a recommended neighborhood in Berlin for a 3 week in September. We were there 2 years ago for about 12 days and stayed in two different areas; Neukolln and Prenzlauer Berg. We loved Neukolln area. We were on Weserstrasse, on the same block as Berlinburger and a block away from Hermannplatz. Very lively, affordable places to eat, something interesting on every corner all the way to the Spree and Tempelhofer! When we moved to Prenz Berg (on...More

Kreuzberg can be a bit more edgy, but yes the date you were there would have had an effect. Of course, it also depends on where you are in Kreuzberg; the area around Potsdamer Platz and towards Tempelhof Airport are in Kreuzberg, though I think you're probably referring more to the area around Kottbusser Tor and Görlitzer Bahnhof. There are still large parts of Xberg that are great to stay in, though they could be a bit disappointing on the nightlife front. Friedrichshain is just across...More
