This monument stands in tribute to Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, authors of The Communist Manifesto.
The monument is a sculpture consisting of larger than life bronze sculptures of a sitting Karl Marx and and a standing Friedrich Engels. Around the monument are columns depicting scenes related to communism. There’s also a sculpture that’s obviously been split in to with one part showing an impression of half relief sculptures on the other, a not so subtle reference to the division of Germany.
I’ll leave it up to you to decide if the monument should stand given the history of communism.

You cannot fail to be impressed by the larger than life figures of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels that stand close to the road on the way to Alexanderplatz. Now surrounded by a planted green area, when originally erected in 1986, they were, of course, in the East Berlin sector. The relief wall behind the statues features scenes from the history of the German Socialist movement. There is a link on the corner of the figures to obtain further details of the sculptures under the “Talking Pictures” scheme, but having not tried it out, it is likely only for German speakers. Not a must do attraction, but well worth spending a few minutes if you are passing.

A rectangular wooded public park created by the GDR authorities, named for Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels to memorialize authors and leaders of The Communist Manifesto of 1848.
The main attraction in the park is larger than life sizes statues of Karl Marx (Sitting) and Friedrich Engels (Standing) in front of a relief wall showing scenes from the history of the German socialist movement.

I was passing on my way to visit the Berlin Dom and I saw the statue of these two just men just before. I couldn't help but ask myself "why is this still standing" and The Berlin walls came down?
Hasn't it been destroyed? Lenin's was surely destroyed in Ukraine a few ears ago!
It is an eyesore and a scourge to view this abomination in today's Europe.
And just on a sidenote, whoever did the sculpting/design didn't doo a good job. The one sitting has disproportionate legs.
Socialism and Marxism stinks and will continue to do so.

If you know history and moreover if you are a marxist or a left party supporter and even more if you think and act like a real human and hate capitalism hat destroys earth and our lives, these two statues means a lot and you have to go and think in front of them the changes that these two men brought in this world with their ideas and they will allways be current.Means a lot to me this spot from Berlin.

Personally I do not agree with their methodology - however no one can deny that they are a pair of impressive statues.

In fact this is not a forum now but a good planned and structured place in a park in Berlin. The monument is not a realistic but a little bit abstract form of Marx and Engels. The settlement of the surrounding structures are good planned, he statues are surrounded by decorative elements. This place is a must-to-see place, a great statue of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels is located in the middle of former East Berlin at the centre of a large, grassy square - almost a park - called Marx-Engels Forum. The ensemble was designed by sculptor Ludwig Engelhardt.

I am happy to see that the German and Berlin authorities choose to preserve artworks from post war socialist era, like this beastly big old monument dedicated to the authors of the Communist Manifesto, put here by DDR authorities as a tribute and to pimp up the green space between the Dom and TV tower. Think what you want of it, but removing or defacing undesirable monuments never erased history. Impressive set of sculptures.

If you come across the statues while walking it's worth stopping for 5m to see them otherwise it's not worth a special visit.

These statues used to lovingly face the seat of East German Communist power, the Palast der Republik, the former DDR Politburo building. The Palast has long since been torn down. Last time I saw them (Dec 2010), they were staring into the empty space that was under construction of some new building.

Can anyone tell me if the Marx and Engels statue has been moved due to some construction in the area? Thanks in advance.
