Excelent tour with an Italian guide who explained and guided us throughout the "essential" and most famous parts and sites of Berlin. Despite the few hours at disposal, the guide had been able to transfer us the history and the "stories behind the scene" of each visited site. Really appreciated!

best german experience ever: the italian guide, Fabio, was extremely nice, exhaustive and helpful. he was so good explaining all the tourist stops and the stories behind them. this experience is highly recommended, considered also the low price. it took tre hours and half, but it wasn’t boring, all opposite. for a city like Berlin, a city full of stories to tell, i would mighty suggest you this experience, especially with Fabio, if you are italian.

Thank you very much for the kind words! Fabio has been working with us for a lot of years and we are really happy to hear that you found him “extremely nice, exhaustive and helpful”. We are also glad that you found Berlin a city “full of stories to tell” and the length and price of the tour fair. We hope to see you again!

Denis, the tour guide, was a rare find in Berlin - he's German, and Berlin-born to boot! All the guides on other tours were from other countries. He took us on the tour of the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp.
I would say it was a great tour, but as it covers a tragic period of history, that would not be the appropriate word to use. Denis was very knowledgable - I believe he is studying for a degree in history at university - and wove an illuminating narrative around the camp, incorporating personal stories of some of the more "famous" prisoners, including a German who had tried to kill Hitler.
The tour was very well-paced and took us around the fields, the prison cells, the cramped sleeping quarters of the prisoners, the area for "special" prisoners that weren't allowed to mix with everyone, as well as the area for the firing squads and the gas chambers. We saw the memorials, and were told the stories of what had happened that added colour to the trials and tribulations of the prisoners.
Before visiting Germany, all I knew about the concentrations camps were as a Nazi "final solution" to exterminating jewish people, but after visiting Sachsenhausen I realised it was much much worse, so many peoples were targeted for extermination: minorities like non-white people, gypsies, homosexuals, political prisoners (such as communists), and even regular petty criminals. Many of those imprisoned were not just foreigners, many were Germans, and perhaps being from England, we weren't taught this in school.
Denis, the guide, also answered a question that I'd always wondered about, "how do modern Germans born long after the war feel about what had happened in the not-too-distant past?" I won't reveal the answer here, go on the tour and find out, it's definitely worth it!
Sachsenhausen is the Auschwitz of the Berlin area, and as such, one of the must-do things in Berlin. And as a free tour, there's no reason not to go!
The our lasted around 6 hours, and was in English (there were people from USA, England, Finland & Switzerland in our tour group). Make sure to get a train ticket (or weekly pass, if you're there long enough). Denis helped with the ticket machines.
It's a walking tour, so wear comfortable shoes, and take a sandwich and a bottle of water as there were no shops at the site - thanks to Denis for that advice before we departed and giving us time to go off to the shops.

We booked a private tour of Berlin with Summer, an American guide who has lived in the city for several years. Our group consisted of 6 family members, including 2 kids, aged 8 and 11 years old and grandparents and we ALL loved it.
Summer met us at our hotel on our first morning in the city and from there we went on the U and S Bahn's to various site seeing places including the Reichstag, cathedrals, Brandenburg Tor, squares, Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie to name but a few. She kept us entertained for four hours, with a quick coffee stop half way through and we were captivated throughout. We learnt so much about the city that we would never have known about and the kids took on board everything. It also gave us the confidence to use the public transport for the remainder of our trip! Well worth the money and Summer was an informative and friendly guide. Could not recommend highly enough.

My friends and I just did the "free sachsenhausen memorial tour" with Mariska. This is by far the best tour I've ever been to. Our guide was Mariska, from New Zealand, she was great and super nice, you could tell she likes doing her job. We learned a lot of info on German history and the story of the concentration camp, very interesting and we never had a moment of boredom. The flyer says "only basis tour", so we were expecting something quick and rather short, but boy were we in for a surprise! Our guide new a lot about this sensitive theme and she answered all our questions perfectly. On our way back to Berlin she even gave us some tips on where to go out and what to do in the city.
The free tour is the only one I've done with this company, but I bet their other ones are just as good.

5 of us ladies were in Berlin when we chanced upon the brochure of Vive Berlin and decided to go for their Sachsenhausen tour. What great luck we had! Dennis was not only an excellent tour guide, his captivating style of story telling made the tour unforgettable. All 5 of us had been on numerous tours in Asia Pacific and Europe and we all unanimously agreed that Dennis is the best we have met. If we had more time in Berlin, we would have joined more of their tours. Will definitely recommend Vive Berlin to everyone visiting Berlin. The tour is free and doesn't deserve to be, Dennis really puts in a lot of effort and passion into it so I strongly encourage participants in the tour to give a good tip within your budget. Thanks again Dennis!

Our tour guide was Greta. She was a great tour guide keeping our interest very high telling stories abour real lives when they sey the Berlin wall. It is the first time I realized what that wall meant for the people who lived at that time in Berlin. She talked about real life stories about her mom and her friend and telatives. Usually I have difficulties to listen very long time, this time she got my attention the whole time. I would definitely recommend her when you visit Berlin.

A 4 hour walking tour of all the important sites of Berlin, with Summer Banks an enthusiastic knowledgeable guide. The tour was easy walking at a comfortable pace, Summer was sensitive to the sites we visited and was able to answer every question we gave her.

Our free Sachsenhausen tour with Dennis was incredible! Dennis is one of the most passionate guides I've met in the 35 countries I've visited. He cares so much about the information he is sharing and is passionate about all the topics he covers. He's much more of a storyteller than anything else... he doesn't deliver facts, but heartfelt anecdotes, narratives, and stories that mean so much more than blatant statistics. He's animated and really captured our attention for the entire length of the tour.
Dennis enjoys his job and is very welcoming also. This makes the tour so much more enjoyable than guides that are obviously unhappy to be there.
Our tour was informative, moving, and memorable. Yes, we learned about many grim realties, but we also left with new understandings not just about WWII and the Holocaust from a German perspective, but about the resilency of the human spirit and the thoughtfulness and optimism of people even in the context of shocking history.

Hello WanderVV,
thank you very much for your kind words! I am very glad that you received the stories and the message behind them in the way that I intended them to be received: As a reminder of the horrible past, but also as a reminder that single individuums can make a difference when they decide to do the right thing no matter the price.
Btw., I would not say that I "enjoy" the Sachsenhausen tour, since its content is so grim, but it is the most personal and emotional tour that I do with Vive Berlin. I have a strong motivation to share the stories and lessons of the past with people from throughout the world.

We recently brought a group of teenagers to Berlin for a cultural/ historical trip, and were very keen that they engage both with the history and culture on offer. We did two tours with Vive Berlin- one to Sachsenhausen, and the Cold War Tour.
Our students are a hard audience to keep captivated for 40 minutes, let alone for 6-7 hours, but somehow Dennis managed to! The students came away from the Concentration Camp tour, in particular, with a much greater understanding than previous. They were fully engaged for the time they were there, and this I would attribute to Dennis' clever use of personal stories, which are well researched, and linked in to key moments in history. This is an approach, which I feel appeals to both history buffs, and novices alike!
The Cold War tour similarly links the personal to the historical facts, and although our students were a much harder audience the following day, Dennis never wavered in terms of patience, and enthusiasm!
Having done tours in Berlin, and elsewhere before, I was genuinely impressed by the level of passion, preparation, and interest Dennis showed in his tours, something which is infectious! I would, and have already recommended Vive Berlin Tours to friends and colleagues intending on visiting Berlin soon, and I wish all at Vive Berlin every success, they are a business that truly deserves it!

Hello! After reading reviews I’d like to inquire about a private tour with Dennis. Where can I find the private tours your offer and whom can I inquire with about special group prices? I will probably have about 25 people. Please let me know, thank you!

Hola buenos dias.
