The area
Neighborhood: Friedrichshain
When you arrive at Warschauer Strasse in the heart of the district, you have found one of Berlin’s party hotspots. At night in Friedrichshain, the energy is palpable and the streets of this old worker's quarter are full of street musicians. On one hand, you may find a bar with international crowds, electronic music, long lines and panoramic views - on the other, an outside venue by old train yards featuring decrepit buildings and live alternative music. No matter your taste, the best way to end a night out in Friedrichshain is sitting by the Spree River at the East side gallery, the longest and best preserved piece of the Berlin Wall, watching the sun rise over the beautiful Oberbaum Bridge.

Spacious park with lots of greenery, pathways, art and lawns for a lie down. There is a hillock in the middle, at the top of which folks gather for a game of volleyball, badminton, a grill or just lounging. Nice park.

That is one of the largest parks in Berlin and also the oldest. It's an integral part of the city's history. The hills on the parks are actually built from rubble from the Second World War. Nowadays you wouldn't tell, since it is all green, full of children and people enjoying sunny summer days. And the Märchenbrunnen (simply the fountain of fairy tales) is very sweet!

A beautiful park, which feels well-used by locals and pretty undiscovered by tourists.
There are some lovely garden areas, and several beautiful fountains- the most spectacular has a 'fairy story' theme. There's a nice mix of places to wander, to do sports and for children to enjoy, plus a good range of places to eat and drink near the lake at the core.

I found this to be a great running destination near our hotel/apts. I always felt safe with lots of other runners, walkers and families around. The fairytale fountain with statues from familiar Grimms stories was worth revisiting.

Approaching the park from Am Friedrichshain(tram m4,bus 200)You come across the beautifully restored water fountains.10 large fountains and several smaller ones are surrounded by marble and carved stone animals.Signs explain the history in German & English better than I could here.
Press on into the park and you will find two large tree lined hills.Again well written signs tell the interesting story of the Grosser amd kleiner bunkers.
The park has several kids playgrounds with water pumps and climbing frames, grill zone for BBQs,tennis courts and of course, this being Germany a beer garten with 2 restaurants!
All in all a top day out just three stops from Alexplatz.
Top tip is to buy food from Melis bakery over the road before you enter the park

Such a quiet lovely place tot make you forget that you're in a city of millions. Way more satisfying than tiergarten, because of its numerous spots to hang land enjoy the view.

this is a great park for family and sport. there are beach volleyball courts, a path for skating, tennis courts, a nice restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. There are lots of green spaces and shade also if it is hot out. It is great for jog and or walk. It is big enough to enjoy, but not so big where it goes on forever like Tiergarten.

Nice park for jogging, playing volleyball-beach, doing Yoga and Pilates. Unfortunately in Summer some people aren’t taking care of it, so its full of trash and toilet paper everywhere

In Volkspark Friedrichshain, we saw the wonderful fairy tale fountain, with 4 basins decorated with water jets and very beautiful sculptures, including:
- many animals, with a beautiful turtle
- and nine other sculptures by Ignatius Taschner, which represent the famous Grim tales: Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the Puss in Boots, Little Red Riding Hood, the Seven Crows, Hansel and Gretel, Lucky Jean, Brother and Sister, Sleeping Beauty. We learned that one of the sculptures of the Seven Dwarfs had the features of the German painter Adolph Menzel!!!

It seems incredible that this park could exist in the middle of this big city. It is a little bit crowded but peaceful at the same time. There are different areas of playgrounds a part of big grass areas and a rose garden. Nice to see if you are in the middle of the city with little children.
