I discovered Fort Hahneberg online a few years ago, and recognised some photos as being one of the sets used in Inglorious Basterds, but unfortunately all of my stays in Berlin were usually in Winter, so it was not open. I came for my birthday at the start of October, so was super excited to see that the fort was indeed still open, adn it offered English tours!! Great stuff!

Booking was fairly simple- we had to email via the website (Google translate was very helpful with navigating the site) and we paid cash on arrival. There was a group of 7 of us and it cost around 14 Euros each for an English tour.

Yes, the fort is a bit of a work in progress, and there are parts that are derelict, but this is explained during the tour as being a bit of a casualty of war- meterials were required to rebuild Berlin, and the fort was pretty outdated, so bricks were taken from it, leaving it a bit worse for wear. However, they are working hard to get it restored, and your tour fee helps towards it, so I was happy to pay.

Robert, the tour guide met us promptly at the entrance to the fort and was very knowledgeable on the area and the history of the site. The tour was very informative and quite funny at times. Definitely better for an adult audience, but there are activities that are planned throughout the year for families and children- check out the website.

The question on everyones mind... YES... you do get access to the film set of Inglorious Basterds, and not just the one you have in mind either! It's pretty cool!

TIP: Plan your journey well and leave a little earlier than required. Certain buses will stop earlier, and don't take you all the way to the fort. If you get off the bus early, google maps will try to get you to walk- don't do it! It will take you to the back end of the fort, where you cannot gain entry. If you are uncertain in any way, Robert at the fort is very helpful and will give detailed instructions on how to get there.

Interesting excursion, but not for small children
Apr 2018 • Family
One can get inside of Fort Hahneberg only with a guided tour. Clearly because of security reasons. The fort is mostly a ruin.
On the webside it us called "family excursion", but I would not recommend it to children younger than 10-11 years old. For small kids it's rather boring and difficult to keep calm and follow the group. Unfortunately, their parents have no possibility to hear the guide since they must permanently watch the kids. I only understood that "Inglorious bustards" were shooted here.
Maybe next time I'd come without children or wait until they grow up.
