I booked the free tour due to limited funds for the Berlin trip and after a friend recommended it wholeheartedly. Rochele was amazing and the perfect combination of fun, interactive and seriousity. She made me want to come back here and explore more of Berlin and this company's tours. They're worth your time!

Rob M, thank you so much for such a great tour! We are STILL talking about both the free walking tour and the communist tour. Loved it so much! The next day we took the concentration camp tour with Amy and she was absolutely amazing as well. This company never disappoints (we've been on their tours in all of the... More

I always make the Sandeman free tours everywhere, and Lewis was the very best. He will make you love Berlin and stay more that you would. Fun and informative two and a half hours. The tour was excellent. I strongly recommend it.

Did the Sandman's free walking tour of Berlin today following similar in Prague a few days ago. Unfortunately the over emphasis on theatrics by the guide (in both cities) and promotion of the firm's other paid tours (which reduces the time spent on more interesting facts and history) detract quite a lot from the experience.

We went on this tour with Rob Mc. on 17.8.16 I thought I knew a fair bit about the cold war period in Berlin, but we all learned so much from Rob on this tour, which took us all over the place, including a trip on the subway trains. Rob knew his stuff, having studied this period at university, and... More

We have found that the best thing to do when arriving at a new city is book a Sandemans overview tour and plan your trip from there. They guides have been without exception knowledgeable and helpful for tips for the rest of your stay. In this case our guide was Zabi and he gave such a great tour including a... More

Kyle was fantastic, enthusiastic, informative and kept the tour moving at a great pace. Kyle was an excellent story teller and also had a great sense of humour. Highly recommend this tour to anyone travelling to Berlin. We were on the English speaking tour. Thank you Kyle and Sandeman as this was a great start to our trip.

It was an incredible and humbling experience especially with a knowledgable guide such as Mark Curtis who gave us all the facts about the camp. Thank you Mark for a very informative tour of Sachsenhausen. Worth a visit !

The third riech tour was as eye opening as it was thought provoking. We had Kyle who was engaging and really just an all round pleasure to listen too. She really held the pace well and answered questions like something from a Wiki page. I've come off feeling much more enriched from the experience. Thanks Kyle!

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
