The four-pipe fountain is in a prominent location in front of the old town hall and in close proximity to the old Main Bridge. The large fountain shows the four virtues crowned by the Frankonia. A great photo opportunity and a popular meeting point for all kinds of activities.

This fountain is also known as the Four-Tube Fountain.
It is designed in Baroque style and is close to the Alte Mainbrücke or the Old Main Bridge and is a popular meeting place.
There are four water-spouting dolphins which tower over the fountain basin. The four virtues are Justice : woman with scales and fasces,Fortitude : woman with helmet., Temperance : woman filling a goblet with wine, and Prudence : woman with mirror and book.

We stopped at the Vierröhrenbrunnen or the Four-Tube Fountain at Grafeneckart. It is designed in the lines of the late Baroque period and is one of the most famous fountains in Würzburg.
By dint of its prime location, close to the Alte Mainbrücke or the Old Main Bridge, the Four-Tube Fountain has remained a popular landmark and meeting place for locals as well as tourists, even after the introduction of the pedestrian zone.
On each of the four sides of the fountain are four water-spouting dolphins which tower over the fountain basin.
An obelisk stands in a base and each corner of the base is decorated with an figurative statue of the four virtues :
Gerechtigkeit - Justice : woman with scales and fasces
Tapferheit - Fortitude : woman with helmet.
Mäßigkeit - Temperance : woman filling a goblet with wine
Weisheit - Prudence : woman with mirror and book.
The coat of arms on the obelisk is from prince-bishop Adam Frieidrich von Seinsheim
At the crest of the obelisk is the statue of Franconia with a duke's hat and the Frankish storm flag (Rennfähnlein).
I truly eye catching and magnificent fountain...

The Four-Pipe Fountain is situated just across from Grafeneckart in a heavy pedestrian traffic area. Very likely you will pass by this area in route to the Old Main Bridge and can have a look at the fountain on the way. Historically there was a water well at this location as early as the Middle Ages. The fountain monument you see today dates to the 18th century and is Baroque in architectural form.
What you see is a obelisk with a bronze coat of arms and topped by the Patron Saint of Fraconia. At the base of the obelisk are female figures representing (wisdom, temperance, justice & strength), below which are for dolphins from which water spills from their mouths into a ground level basin. It is an ornate fountain that is well worth viewing for a couple of minutes when sightseeing in this area of Würzburg.

One of the most famous fountains in Würzburg was designed in the late Baroque period. Dolphins spouting water rise above the fountain basin on four sides. Above each of these, a cardinal virtue is embodied in a figure: courage/strength, wisdom, temperance, and justice.

Worth a little look as part of your self-guided walking tour... not too far from the bridge and main shopping street.

If my German serves me correctly, Vierrohrenbrunnen translates in English as four pipe fountain. In the old times fountains were very important as they provided water to citizens. Fountain has plenty of details to admire.

Near the old Main bride and in front of the Grafeneckart you will find a nice fountain with four tubes. At least since the Renaissance, possibly until the Middle Ages, there was a draw well at this place. During the installation of the aqueduct by Balthasar Neumann in 1733 the first public well was built. The design created Jakob van der Auwera with a fountain column the Schönborn lion sat on and the coat of arms of Prince bishop Friedrich Karl von Schönborn. The enlargement of the fountain went to the Auwera workshop in 1763. The further execution of the 1765/1766 completed fountain took over to Johann Peter Wagner. You will see over the fountain basin after four sides water-spitting dolphins. In each case a cardinal virtue is embodied. Finally, the fountain rejuvenates to a crested Obelisk, which concludes with the Frankonia. The coat of arms at the Obelisk is from Adam Friedrich von Seinsheim.
