The museum is interesting, but what makes it special is the largest collection of carvings by Tilman Riemenschneider anywhere. He was a truly great worker in wood and stone, and it's wonderful to see so much of his work in one place, There are other things well worth seeing, including fine collections of porcelain and silver, as well as some... Whilst it is in the Marienberg Fortress this museum needs to be visited in its own right partly because it is a large place and requires several hours to do it justice and partly because it is not just a museum and has a collection of paintings and sculpture that are of international value. The sculpture of Tilman Riemenschnieder 1460... More

Museum fee is included in Marienburg Festung entrance fee. Unfortunately we had to hurry through to make 1500 English tour of the fortress. Otherwise we would've taken our time to enjoy the museum thoroughly. Nonetheless, we were impressed with the wood carvings and other objects in this museum. Highly recommended when you visit this fortress.

Preparation of upcoming exhibition has meant that the museum is closed for 6 weeks. There are no signs to indicate this, neither in town, nor on the website, and you only discover it after you have hiked a very long way up a very steep hill, and find the door barred, with a notice in German only. Assuming you can... More

Wonderful art and artifacts about Wurzburg and the life of prince-bishops. Worth visiting. You can see it in an hour but it's better if you have 2 hours. The furniture collection is worth seeing.

There is one room devoted to the wood carvings of Tilman Remienschneider that is wonderful. Be sure to see the frieze of the Fourteen Holy Helpers.

I have visited this museum many times and always enjoy going there and finding something new. Wonderful arts and cultural exhibits but my favorite part of the museum are the displays of arms, weapons, cannons and military regalia. Leave time in your tour of the fortress to take in this museum.
