Our first visit to Wurzburg in October 2017 was fabulous for a wedding and the market square is gorgeous.
Our second visit to see our married friends whilst the Christmas market was on was phenomenal. The Christmas market here is much better than Frankfurt!

We arrived at the city by train, then we went to the centre by tram. Market square is a huge place with nice old buildings, stunning churches around. It’s the heart of the city, a must-see site.

This was a great place to shop and to find good food! We walked through and stopped at a few places, but you could spend the whole day just exploring this area. There is just everything you could want including outdoor stalls with fruits and veggies of all sorts, flowers, take away food, sit down restaurants, and every type of shop you can think of. They even have confectioneries full of home made candies and they are worth a try!

in the marktplatz. Had all the requirements of a good Bavarian market. There are better, bigger ones in other towns. I would make this a reason to visit Wurzburg but if you happen to wander through take a look around.

Every European city has its own Market Squre and Würzburg's is no exception, however its cozy size is easily manageable without getting lost in a labyrinth of potential side streets. The square houses most of the city's top landmarks which again is very convenient for travelers to see most of everything. During the warm season, it is a charming and pleasant area to congregate as there are cafes, restaurants, shops, and of course the open market where one can delight in the fresh produce and flowers for sale. There is also an open "fast food" stand selling bratwurst and other German fare. During Christmas season, a wonderful display of holiday nicknack and goodies create a wonderful ambience for the upcoming celebration. Across the square is the beautiful Alte Mainbrücke with its historical figures in stone lining this old main bridge for which it is named. It is a beautiful bridge, not as majestic and long as Paris' Pont Alexandre but perhaps more interesting with the statues hovering over passerbys.

There are cute little shops & a great bratwurst stand. They were setting up the Christmas market, which I’m sure is beautiful.

Visited the building on a tour and was very impressed. I took pictures from all sides. During lunch period it is very difficult to navigate the area.

This location was part of guided tour on Viking River cruise. Our guide was a student and pointed out her recommendation for brat (2 euro) and beer (3 euro). Best brat I have had. The roll was fresh and crispy. Get it with the mustard. No ketchup please
