There are more picturesque towers in Rothenburg (not that this one isn't picturesque in its own right), but this one is special because you can go to the top.

One of the city portals. Once in the old town, you can easily find this one and other portal, just by walking around. Nice architecture to photograph

This Röder (Clearer?) tower is unique, as you can climb up. This access has a small fee and it is open only during the late spring through the summer until autumn. This tower is usually the starting point for tours on the wall. It was damaged at the war.

Roderturm is one of the towers located in the old town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a wonderful medieval city in Franconia, a region of the south part of Germany. It is s typical and very nice tower, which you see if tou walk in the center of this fairy tale town. Pretty.

Der Roderturm was another tower in Rothenburg. You could climb up this tower but have to pay the fee of 1.5 Euro. When you went up the top, you could have panoramic views over the town of Rothenburg. Quite worthwhile.

This was my main entrance into the Old town of Rothenburg as my hotel was just down the street. You can walk or drive and traffic is two ways so I saw a few cars backing up to allow oncoming traffic. This is a beautiful gate and example of the historic defense the old town had. If you are feeling adventurous, you can climb to the top of the tower.

This tower sits by the Rodertor (gate) at the entrance to the walled city. Right by the gate is access stairs to the wall which allows you to walk through the tower atop the wall. Good picture area.

This is the only tower on the town walls that you can climb to the top and it is really worth it for the fabulous 360 degree views. There are a lot of narrow and steep stairs if that bothers you but if not don't miss this.

I always see this tower and its gateway as the main entrance to the city of Rothenburg. It is a picture perfect little tower that you can view as you go through the multiple gates into the city. It is even nice from the inside and is a very welcoming sight as you approach the city.

We had entered the town through the Roderturm to get to our hotel at the Gasthof Zum Breiterle, which was basically right next to the tower. In the afternoon, my family and I climbed the stairs next to the tower to walk half the length of the town walls since it started to rain. There are many great views to be seen. The stairs can be a little steep to climb and descend, so be careful especially when it is raining.
