A shop

As I said, it is a shop, not a museum. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it. You can visit it in August and still feel like it's Christmas. There's a magical atmosphere.

Rothenburg was the eighth city stop on our great rivers of Europe river cruise. We had a program director tour guide who led us on a fascinating tour of Rothenburg and its historic attractions. The Christmas Museum is actually a combination museum and retail Christmas store. There is an admission fee but it was included in our shore excursion. Both... More

The museum was completely empty when we went there - all people were only visiting the shop (which is a very smart choice). The shop (located in the same building) itself is absolute amazing btw and you should be prepared that you won't leave without buying some nice christmas stuff. The museum costs 4 euros/pP and if you're not 100%... More

If you love Christmas this is a must see. It's enchanting and even in July a visit will put you in the Christmas spirit. Couple it with a shopping spree at Kathe Wohfahrt for the ultimate holiday experience.

The Christmas museum is a highlight of a visit to the medieval gem of Rothenberg. It is worth the visit but so is all of the city. We climbed the tower, walked the city walls, and had a great time even though our 3 hours as part of our Vantage river cruise was too short.

The museum is co located with the Christmas shop but is quite separate in that it really is a museum and not an ad for the shop. My teen and I enjoyed the quiet respite from the craziness of the shop and enjoyed reading about the historical foundations of many Christmas traditions.

If you want to know what German Christmas is or what it used to be in the old times, I recommend the Christmas Museum. It's a one of a kind place in Rothenburg. If you're looking for the unique gift, here you'll find it for sure.

I enjoyed this museum, but I wouldn't say it's a must-see. It has some interesting information about the history of Christmas and I loved seeing the different decorations. I also love Christmas, so I enjoyed it. Also, for those wondering, the museum is not just a giant ad for the store below, which I was glad to see. Would recommend... More

We went to Rothenburg as part of our Vantage European Riverboat cruise. It is such a charming little town!! There are flower boxes on the houses, and it looks exactly like what you would envision a Bavarian town in Germany. The streets are narrow with cobblestone streets, darling houses and shops, and a lot of fair prices in the shops.... More

I know I'm not a Christmas enthusiast, but even so, this place was stark. There was nobody else there when we went and I can see why. Unless you're doing research on Christmas for a paper, don't bother.
