We loved walking around the old town - we arrived late in the afternoon s it was not too busy - perhaps during the day is worse. The town was just so beautiful and plenty of shops to keep you occupied as well.
We travelled here to show the kids an olde world Christmas market. Well worth a visit. So pretty at night. Magical lights and amazing Christmas shops and markets. Had a wonderful time and even our 16 and 17 daughter and son enjoyed it and still...More
In this quaint village. The buildings are spectacular you feel like you are in a postcard of Germany. The town is known for it's Christmas decorations. Stop at a bakery and try their famous dessert called "snowballs"
We spent the day here and wandered around on the walls and then the interior. The shop keepers were mostly friendly (especially if you had your wallet out.) The old architecture is something to behold and this place is a MUST visit. We had a...More

Lucky you - a lovely trip. On a rough line from Munich to Cologne, I'd suggest Ulm, Heidelberg and Bernkastel. Ulm for its buildings and cathedral, Heidelberg for the Castle and old town, and Bernkastel for the charming old town and the wonderful Mosel wines. If you are up to it, the site of the death camp at Dachau just north of Munich should be on most people's lists.
If you head north then east, I'd suggest Regensburg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Bamburg...lovely towns, so many to choose from.
Don't stick just to the motorways - boring as ever. In a straight line the whole trip should only take 6 hours, so you'll have plenty of time to wander around over 3 days!
