We visited Rothenburg on a cold day, but the warmth of the Christmas Market and the signature gluwein made it all worthwhile. Beautiful half-timbered buildings surround the Marktplatz where the Christmas Market is located. The local shops are all decked out in holiday attire and crafts and food are available in abundance. If time allows, take a walk along the... More

Saw this city on one of Rick Steves show in nice weather. It was a cold, overcast December day and it's still a beautiful place to walk around in. We visited the Christmas Market in the center of town, and several smaller plazas. Drank some hot gluhwein to keep warm and perused Christmas ornaments and hand made items. Stopped for... More

If you come to Bavaria and miss Rothenburg, you need to be slapped up side the head. Classic walled medieval city with a new amazing photo opportunity around every corner. Get there early before the crowds. Many shops open on Sunday - not usual in Germany.

It is an extraordinary real medieval town. You can see in Marktplatz many beautiful buildings. There are a lot of streets with fine houses, churches and public buildings. (e.g. Galgangasse). It has also fine Walls.

Beautiful medieval town we visited for the Christmas Markets, although this town I expect is a fabulous year round attraction. Great old medieval buildings all the way through the town into the main square/town Hall. The shops sell quality goods and local produce more than the usual tourist bric-à-brac. The streets were lined with Christmas trees and all stores were... More

Rothenburg is always worth visiting, and the Christmas market is definitely worth seeing. Outside of Colmar, this is one of the nicest markets we have visited.

My husband and I drove up to Rothenburg and fell in love with this Medieval Village. It is so quaint with its cobblestone pathways and very old homes. Shopping is wonderful too and if you want something Christmassy this is the place to purchase it. We did a tour with the town crier and learned a lot about this well... More

We traveled almost three hours to visit this small town and only thing we regret is that we didn't come earlier because one and half day we had for walking through the down town were not enough. We couldn't stop taking pictures and were really amazed. It is so beautiful! We hope to come back soon.

We hit the beginning of the Christmas market. Lots of booths of things geared towards tourists and destined to collect dust. But climb to the top of the tower and you will be treated with an amazing view of the city. The stairs would make a California lawyer salivate...... the Brats were awesome
