We entered the old town along Galgengasse. We were so impressed by the first traditional buildings and could not wait to see all others.

Galgengasse, Gallows alley leads from Weisser turm (white tower ) to Galgen Tor (Gallows gate). If you walk through the gate, the old Gallows field is now children playground. Most of the attacks to the city came also from this direction as it is the highest ground outside of the city.
My first visit to the city came through this gate and street. Plenty of shops on this street.

Galgengasse is one of the very beautiful streets located in the old town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a wonderful medieval city in Franconia, a region of the south part of Germany. In this street, you can walk , buy some souvenirs in the shop or eat something in the restaurants. In fact, you can enjoy a lot seeing the wonderful medieval buildings here. Very nice.

Not only is this tower picturesque, it also provides easy access to the city outside the walls. It is both accessible and a worthy stop in its own right.

We have walked the city walls a lot the last couple of days and as we come to the gate ways we climb down the steps and have a good look like we did at this one , read any information we can find , maybe take some photos and up the steps again and move on .The whole wall structure is so impressive , a must do walk .

One of a number of Town wall gates to this delightful town. All of them are interesting to see. The whole town is a picturesque must see.

we entered the city through the Galgentor gate and drove along this street to reach our hotel in city center. It is one of the more traveled roads in the city.

Th plaque on this gate/tower has a few more details than most. I will try to tell you what is translates to.

Galgentorturm - Construction period 1330. Due to some street re-routing there were some changes made in the middle section.

Well worth a walk by...awesome structure.

This lovely little street is a nice respite from the crowds in the main square or near some of the more popular sites. It seemed to me that it was mainly a residential street but it leads you from the center of town to the Gallows Gate, which is also something in and of itself to see. Take a stroll and escape the crowds.

We entered Rothenburg through the gate on Galgengasse and had a delightful introduction to the city as we strolled along past the picturesque buildings on our way to Marktplatz.
