Tilman Riemenschneider altar

Don't miss the Tilman Riemenschneider altar of St Francis. There are also 15th and 16th century sculptures.

We stopped in here on our way to the Burggarten and we were not disappointed. The church is not over done which is what we would expect from a Franciscan church. It is worth seeing to see what a Franciscan church is like. It is free to enter but there are donation doxes in the church. Really enjoyed the 15... More

We stopped in here while in town. The doors were opened and we walked straight in. The place is very peaceful and not overrun by people wanting to snap pictures. This is not a fancy cathedral but a living place of worship so please show some respect when visiting.

Being right across the street from our hotel, we couldn't miss the Franziskanerkirche, but be aware that it is open only during specific hours of the day (14:00-16:00 on Sundays). We found it very worthwhile, and as interesting as Jacob's Church, which is nearby.

Very cool, super old 14th century church. Free entry makes it enticing for travelers on a budget. There are various donation boxes around for you to choose what you would like to donate to in support of the church maintenance, music, etc. Lots of art and artifacts from the 1600s and 1700s and earlier, and there is a free "brief... This church is fantastic. So much history, so much character. It was incredibly quiet while we were there so pictures have turned out great.

You can always rely on the simplicity of a franciscan church to take you to a more contemplative space. Here in the tourist heart of Rothenburg, so close to the Markplatz and even closer to the Galgengasse gate, you can experience the same pure removal from the medieval and baroque sensuality of the other churches.

Not one of the top things to see or do in Rothenburg but if you have some spare time than it's worth a visit and it's free.

A beautiful church to visit. After being in places where the churches are very baroque, the simplicity of this church was lovely. A lady was in the church, willing to talk about the church and its history ( in English too).

This is a very simple church in a very old city. You must remember this is a small town and the church is to scale
