This whole area can be accessed by bicycle on relatively level paths with one or two places to take refreshment on the way.
Great scenery for exercise.

We rented 'normal' bikes and did the tour starting from Hopfen. It is about 35 km tour full of nice views over the lake, with the mountains in the background. It took us around 3 hours to complete (with no preparations :) the tour is well marked, however having a map with you is recommended

Find out how long it takes and get a trail map. Several of my American high school students explored the route, but they found it wasn't always marked well. It took them about 2 hours.

Although we did not hire bikes we walked most of the route around Schwangau. The amount of cycle tracks available is amazing, clearly a lot of money and effort has gone into the sport and judging by the number of cyclists using the routes it was well with the expense.

We rented electric bikes next to the train station based on Rick Steve's information that there are several hills. Most is not hilly, but it was nice to be able to get a little extra help on the hills. It's about 20 miles and spectacular! Alps in the distance, goes through farmyards, definitely a welcome diversion from castles.
