This local history museum was wonderful! It was informative, interactive, kid friendly, & had artfully displayed exhibits. The artifacts are original and native to the area. Although all the signage was in German, we were given an audio guide in English. This facilitated a better understanding and experience. We both enjoy history. We learned new facts and saw items we had never seen before! We’ll done!

This little town located on the famous Romantic Road of Bavaria was a pleasant surprise. Having left Rothnenberg to the north, we decided to add this stop on our way back to Munich. We're glad we did. We found it more charming and authentic than Rothenberg, which is a little "too touristy".
We arrived on a Sunday morning as the locals were attending Mass in the local church. Although many of the shops were closed, we wandered throughout the walled town, exploring it's alleys and cobbled streets. Everything was clean and it's ancient buildings seemed well maintained. We also stopped for coffee and pastry in a nice shop next to the ancient church. German pastries are so yummy!
All in all, I liked it better than Rothenberg, less hectic, less touristy, more authentically German.

This wonderful museum is located at the Tourist Info Centre at the Altrathaus Platz not far from the Wornitz gate. It is set in a series of small rooms over multiple levels of the Altes Rathaus. Audio guides are available and advisable.
We had a great time here and there is the odd surprise to be found! The history of this lovely town is covered from the earliest times to the arrival of the impressionist painters and more. The displays are varied and interesting and very well presented.
We had a fun day in Dinkelsbuhl and were not sure if we wanted to visit this museum, but we were very pleased that we did. A top museum that is well worth visiting.

Set at the information office in the town centre, this museum tells the history of the area with a lot of exhibits to see and learn about.
Included in the price is an Audio Guide in your chosen language which is very useful in explaining about both the towns history and the exhibits on display. Without it, you would have missed out on so much information.
The price is reasonable at €4 pp with reductions for students and seniors as well as children and it makes a great wet weather attraction.

The museum is worth a visit just the see the history and how people lived over the last 1300 years. The is an interact presentation on how the Church of St George has changed and grown.
As a major tourist destination it really should have information in other languages on the exhibits

One of the gates to the medieval town of Dinkelsbuhl. The fact that a lot less tourists come her, makes you enjoy the place more!

Stop here for an hour or two while driving the Romantic Road. Dinkelsbuhl is one of the most picturesque towns in the region. The church is also worth a stop. Be sure to see the town wall and towers.

Want to learn a little about Southern Germany before the rise of Munich and King Ludwig, this little museum has a story to tell about Dinkelsbuhl and its link to the Romantic Road. The artifacts and details are nicely presented, but it also includes hands on displays for children and adults alike.
