It took me some time to find this city gate as I followed the signs from the city centre and they were taking me around but never directly to it. I spotted it in the last moment when I already gave up going back. Unfortunately it was closed so I couldn't go through. But I don't regret that effort in the end. It took me to the old city walls and to the part of the city I would probably never go.
The gate itself is simple yet beautiful and well preserved.

While walking around the old town, I followed the signs to the Rotes Tor and took some photos. There is nothing special regarding the gate but worth the walk if you are sightseeing Augsburg for first time. Make sure you go through the portal to the other side where you encounter the city walls.

Interesting place, a nice attraction in Augsburg. If you are around, worth for that few additional steps to see it.

Historically and architectural a beauty. The red tower stands out beautifully amongst the other building. Quick stop to take a look is a must. I walked through Augsburg and found this to be very noteworthy.

This is a well preserved tower gate which forms part of the city wall. Not the best beautiful one but can visit if time permits.

the most beautifull and best fortified gates of Augsburgs historic town wall. In summer there is a medieval festival arround the gate.
when you are there, also visit the historical water towers northern of the gate!

Advertised as a wonderful tower we walked over there. Surprise, surprise, it is just a red tower. Nothing more, nothing less. Not worth your time. The park in front of the red tower, though, is worth a vist!

In earlier times, the Red Gate was part of the Augsburg city fortifications. It was formerly also called Spitaltor or Haunstetter Tor.
