Located in the main central square of Augsburg this fountain stands out. Ornate features and a convenient meeting point. I stopped as it was the endpoint of my Day 17 Romantic Road walk from Würzburg to Füssen.

This monumental water fountain is located by Rathausplaz, in front of Rathaus. On the top is the bronze statue of Roman emperor Augustus. This fountain is the first of the three fountains lined along Maximilianstrasse ,or a.k.a. Imperial Mile. It was built around 1600 in Baroque style. The fountain was fenced in with iron wrought to keep people out. But there is enough space on the edge for you to sit on. This area is a popular and convenient gathering place; it is surrounded by open-air cafes, beer stands, farmer's markets, Christmas market and often crowded with tourists as well. City's several trams lines pass through here make it an easy site to visit.

Augustusbrunnen was filled with vendors offering the usual fare of food and christmas ornaments. Very lively, the couple of snacks I tried were better than experienced elsewhere, overall, a nice representation of Augsburg

Very pretty fountain for any fountain buff. Enjoyed a pit stop and taking a good look at the marvelous sculptures.

We saw this fountain, located on the Rathausplatz, with a tour guide, who explained that Augsburg is the second oldest (after Trier) city in Germany, and that it was the largest until well into the 17th century, the time when this fountain was erected. The statue is of the Roman emperor who ruled at the time of the founding of Augsburg. The four figures surrounding the central pedestal represent four rivers and creeks in the Augsburg area, with the Lech the most important.

A lot of young people sit around the fountain just on ground. But there are also plenty of coffee houses. I like the fountain and the whole place.

The fountain is on the middle of the square, which is a pedestrian area, where everyone gathers for eating, playing music and hanging out.

If for business reason or for tourism you have a night in Augsburg, you should visit the place with the night lights. The place is reserved for pedestrian, and in the evening you have a lot of people just drinking a beer on the place.

The statue to Augustus Caeser in the middle of Rathausplatz is worth a visit. In summer it is a fountain, but note that in winter most of it is covered (like all the fountains) to protect it from the elements (see pic attached).
