The Hangman’s Bridge in Nuremberg was constructed in 1457 as a wooden bridge. In medieval times every German city used to have a hang man and Nuremberg’s one lived in the tower on the wooden roofed bridge above the Pegnitz river. It was reconstructed in 1954.

The old wooden bridge was where the executor used to walk from his isolated house on the island to the city. This quaint little spot has many small little shops now and is very pretty and quaint. Excellent photo stop.

There are quite a few historic bridge crossings over the Pegnitz in Nuremberg. One that we really enjoyed is Henkersteg (Hangman's Bridge) at the western end of the small island to Trödelmarkt.

This is a roofed wooden bridge built after the floods of 1595, replacing an earlier bridge destroyed at that time. Henkersteg was renovated multiple times during later centuries. However, it remains in its medieval wooden form, delightfully situated on the river.

You can take nice photos of Henkersteg from Maxbrücke just to the west. You can also cross Henkersteg between Unschlittplatz to the south of the Pegnitz and Trodelmarkt. It ends at the Hangman's House building and Museum.

Pretty historic bridge worth the short walk. Many nice views from the bridge and surrounding area. Not crowded.

Another special place to wander to when you walk around Nuremberg. Old wooden bridge over the river makes such a great a photograph to reminisce about when you get back home. Throughly enjoyed the area and seemed to gravitate here on more than one occasion as we explored the city. You won't reget visiting this lovely bridge, Enjoy.

The Hangman's Bridge is a really nice bridge to stop and admire the views as you explore the Altstadt. Make sure you check this place out as you explore the city.

Not much activity you can do here except relax and enjoying the walk and the view. Would recommend to have a nice cup of coffee in the nearby cafe.

Popular style of bridge over the river in the city. Great architecture and feel of history. Solidly built and one of the best looking type of this style of covered bridge

an amazing beautiful covered bridge. Visited when we were on our Viking Cruise. One of the guides was kind enough to take me right to the bridge.

the history of this place is interesting, and the one executioner our tour guide spoke about was in his job for 40 years. Gruesome things were done to keep the law.
