We were told on arrival that the guide could, but wouldn't, translate the tour into English, even though over half the large group were first language English speakers. Instead, we were all handed a ery brief English leaflet. Luckily, there was a lovely German lady on the tour who was willing to translate for us, which is why this isn't... More

The prison was worth the 3.5 euros per person. Turn into the building where you see a sign for Lochgefangis and buy your tickets from the person on the booth/office. Tours start at the hour and every half hour with at least 4-5 people and it's only in German. Ask for an English guide book when you get your ticket... More

We were told of this location by our local tour guide. Otherwise, we would not have even noticed the sign. The cost is 3.50 euros per person and the tour starts every 30 minutes but only if there are at least 5 people. The majority of people in our group were German, so the tour was spoken in German. But,... More

The Prison is located in the City Hall and can only be visited with a guided tour. (I think there are only tours in German) There is a nice information brochure which explains the history and the different cells etc on request in English. The prison really gives a unique insight into life behind bars all the way back to... More

This was a last minute activity on our way down from the castle and I am so happy we went on the tour. We had a small group and once we made out way underground I was happy not many people can go at once. It was dark, tight and a bit creepy down there. The guide was really informative... More

Gave it 4/5 because I felt like the tour went by too quickly. I guess because I had to translate for my husband. I wanted to examine all the devices more closely. Educational glimpse into the past. Now I know why German bread is so good… If you want to know the answer check out the tour!

It is not bad, it is interesting to see real ancient prison. But there are so many museums like that all over the world that are much bigger, have more exhibits and suggest something unique: like wax figures, rare torture instruments, while here it are just 3-5 rooms with 4-5 typical instruments. Excursions are only in German, no other languages... More

My husband and I joined this tour with two of our local friends. We read along the English pamphlet as the tour was all in German. We enjoyed the tour though, because the tour guide was easy going and we were allowed to go into every open room, touch the creepy object if desired and take pictures to our hearts... More

In medieval times, it was the Catholics. Later, Hilter led the Nazi's in in humane treatment of Jews. Now it's ISIS. Do we ever learn? Tour was in German, but she did her best to speak some English at each location at end. The torture methods were brutal. 2 guards per prisoner - to make sure prisoner didn't commit suicide.... More

I went solo on this tour. German only, but you get the picture, and there is a card in English. Would be better if I spoke German. Prepare for tight spaces and creepiness.
