Today, the statue honoring Orlando di Lasso serves as a memorial to Michael Jackson. It has been decorated by Michael Jackson's fans with posters, flowers, and grave lights since his death in 2009. Michael Jackson stayed at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof next to the statue several times. Orlando di Lasso is considered one of the most important composers of the High Renaissance. The composer lived in Munich until his death in 1594. It is the music that combines Orlando di Lasso and Michael Jackson.

There's never be another Michael Jackson, but pity poor Orlande!

This is by far one of the oddes memorials I've seen in Munich. This is supposed to be a monument to the late Renaissance composer, Orlande de Lassus. The residents of Munich have commandeered this monument and turn it into a memorial to the late great Peter Pan of pop, Michael Jackson. Fans of the pop star have laid down many tributes of flowers, photos and other MJ memorabilia.

Pity poor Orlande!

In memory of MJ

This is actually a statue built in memory of a German composer. However, it 'evolved' into a Michael Jackson memorial. People placed photos and memorabilia of Michael Jackson here, so it became his memorial.

Nothing much here, unless you are a MJ fan.

So confused

I don't understand how this is in any way an official attraction. It is just a bunch of Michael Jackson photos stuck to the base of a statue. It's truly people just hijacking a statue. It's not my place, but if I were a resident of Munich, there's a strong chance I would be there in the middle of the night giving that statue a good cleaning.

Not a real memorial

THIS IS NOT A MEMORIAL FOR MICHAEL JACKSON!!!
It's completely and utterly made up! Why you would want to go here, I have no idea.. even if you're a hard core Michael Jackson fan, you should surely know, that the connection between Munich and Michael is like putting up a Heino memorial in New York! Heino? Who's that? ... Exactly

Nice memorial

We were on a guided city tour and it was very unexpected to see this memorial to MJ. I am thankful to the city authorities that they let people keep it, because it is actually right on the monument to a different musician.

Quite a surprise

We were out walking in Munich and came across this amazing memorial to Michael Jackson. It has become part of the statue of Orlondo di Lasso, a composer who by the way I have never heard of. It is out the front of the Bayerischer Hof Hotel where M.J stayed quite often. The memorial to him consists of hundreds of photographs, flowers, candles and anything that they can think of that will be a lasting memorial to him. Unfortunately that there are mainly two groups who decorate the shrine. What do you get when there are two groups organizing something, yep, friction. The government has told them that if they don't settle down and go about things peacefully the whole thing will be torn down. That would be a thriller wouldn't it.
