Wear comfortable shoes - this palace is huge
Jul 2020
We easily spent a few hours wondering the halls of the palace. I think the only palace I've visited that competes in size is Versailles. This was HUGE and it took quite a while to visit all the rooms, but it is well-worth visiting. Keep in mind that this is a a reconstruction, as the palace was mostly destroyed in WWII. The palace complex is large and confusing, so don't leave without visiting the treasury and the theater. The theater is hard to find, so be sure to ask for help often on the way.

Wonderfully friendly and helpful host. Beautiful building in a quiet neighborhood with good shops and cafes nearby. Close enough to the centre to walk and public transport is close by. Excellent breakfast delivered to the room. Great stylish rooms.

So many big empty rooms.
Oct 2020
I don't know what I was expecting, but there was not too much of anything in the 'museum' section. There was some interesting art and architecture at the beginning of the route, but it the more I walked through the duller it got. Maybe if you like tapestries you'll enjoy. I understand the Residenz was rebuilt from the ruins of WWII and it seems they just didn't have the budget to finish it maybe? For an art lover, the staff advised the 'museum' rather than the treasury. I didn't see that part, so I can't say which area would be more interesting. (Separate admission for each BTW.)
So... I'd say 90% of the Residenz is big, empty, unadorned rooms. The big sculpture hall you see in all the photos is not as flashy as it looks online. Some of the ceiling frescoes are well done, some are unfinished. The chapel is just a big brick room viewed from an interior balcony. The "Chinese Cabinet" is a handful of chairs in an otherwise bare empty room. They recommended 2-3 hours to see it all, but taking my time I was out in 40 minutes.
So maybe all these empty spaces was just not my thing. I'd add a star at least if I had some kind of discount ticket. If I take a chance on the treasure gallery some day, I won't do so at full price!

Rainy days in Munich?
Oct 2020 • Family
This is a good way to spent a rainy and cold day in Munich. The rooms are well maintained and the their design is absolutely amazing and impressive. 9€ to visit all of them. I would recommend it.

Great place to spend a rainy afternoon in Munich. Impressive architecture and interior design. Plenty of rooms to wander through and is worth the entrance fee

So many amazing rooms... definitely a must see. I'm not into museums, but it was cool to see the rooms and all the Residenz had to offer.

One of the best things in Munich
Aug 2020 • Couples
Interesting view of how the kings used to live. Plenty to see and you can easily spend half a day here admiring the rooms. Easily the best thing we saw in Munich. Only downside is the current covid restrictions mean long queues to get in.

Some amazing rooms but a lot not available
Aug 2020 • Family
Due to Covid 2/3 of the attractions are closed with only the house open to visit. This is still very much worth the trouble. Great light show in one room, worth the admission on its own. Guides are very officious if you struggle to hear your audio guide - lighten up you are almost empty and should embrace those who do visit.

Disappointing
Aug 2020
TBH our stop in Munch during a three week tour of southern Germany was more about the shopping but we thought we'd take an hour to see the centrally located Residenz, overall turned out to be a mistake. There is one room worth seeing, the Antiquarium which is usually pictured, the rest was rather dull and unloved, a long walk through various rooms, one looking much like the next, no furniture, no history to hang it all together, not really worth the price of the ticket. Probably better off taking a break from the shops at a nearby bar.
