It was quite impressive to see something so old still standing and looking really stable. It does look different from either side. I quite liked the look of the towers on either side of the gate and was quite excited that you could actually go in. You cant actually go up but it was still an experience. I really like the look of the cobblestones with the bricks of the gate.
There is also a crucifix on the shop side of the gate. I quite enjoyed looking at the ancient structure.

One of the historical gates of the old town Munich. Although it is a historical landmark, it may not be very interesting for those who are not interested in history. In my opinion the Gothic architecture is remarkable and Sendlinger Tor is a nice location to start the old town tour.

Sendlinger Tor is the southern-most of the three remaining gothic town gates of medieval Munich. It's said that the gate was the starting point for the road to Italy. All that really remains of the gate is the single arch main gate and two flanking towers. It's been restored to such a good state that it's not hard to imagine how imposing it would've looked back in the day.

Not a must see, but you'll likely pass this on the way to the Asam Church which is.

Theres a market here as well before xmas and the Christkindl-Tram is great! One can buy the gulwein in a special mug to drink onboard. You get on and off at Sendlinger Tor, the tram travels aorund the old city area for approx. half an hour. Good value 1.5euro and the atmosphere onboard is terrific!! It was snowing when we went and looking out of the tram, was jsut like a xmas card!! I 'must' do if you happen on be in Munich during the days before xmas.

One of the three remaining old city gates which still standing for about 700 years! My big curtsey for this historical place. It's located about 0.69 km south-west from the city centre.

The Sendlinger Tor (translates as Sending Gate) is a city gate at the southern portion of the old town area of Munich. It served as a fortification for the defense of the city and was barely damaged during World War II. Walked through this historic gateway. There used to be five surrounding the city but only three remain.

Sendlingtor is the City Gate to the south of the Old Town. It was built in 1318 and served part of the medieval city fortifications for many centuries. It is an attractive historic structure that is worth spending a few minutes to enjoy when spending time in this area of the Old Town.

Like Karlstor on the west side of the Old Town, it too used to have a large centre tower. That tower structure was demolished in 1808. Additionally the three smaller arch entrances were replaced in the 20th century by a single larger arched entrance to accommodate vehicle traffic into and out of the city.

As such, what you see today is a single arched structure and two smaller pedestrian entrances which pass through hexagon shaped towers on both sides. One of the towers has been beautifully taken over by vines, providing a rich green colour that makes for a nice scene and photos.
