Super active cultural center in the heart of Munich.
Many events and concerts happen here throughout the year. Stay tuned and visit their pages to know when festivals happen, since they are very well organised and free.

While Tripadvisor focuses on places, this review is as much about what is on the stage in this concert hall. We were 6 persons, all music lovers from Norway, going to Munich to listen to the the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Kulturzentrum Gasteig is a huge building with a huge concert hall. As a concert hall, it has not the best reputation in terms of acoustics.
We were lucky and had a wonderful time in company with Mariss Jansons, Frank Peter Zimmermann and the orchestra. We signed the petition for building a new concert hall in Munich. The orchestra, the citizens of Munich and those of us travelling a long way to listen to the two great orchestras in Munich deserve a new concert hall. In this review the conductor, the soloist, and the orchestra should have "five stars" and top score. But the place can't get top score.

We went to a performance of Britten's "War Requiem", a monumental piece that only the brave and very talented attempt. We were not disappointed. This performance ranks among the best I have heard. From the great orchestra and choirs (including a boys' choir) to the huge pipe organ and amazing soloists, we were enthralled from beginning to end. We were sitting in one of the top balconies and when the soloists sang it was as if they were standing ten feet away. The acoustics blew me away.

Being in Munich for the summer, was pleased to find out about Wednesday evening concert/ jam sessions at The Gast cafeteria. Very pleasant seating indoors and outside. The music has always been good and the drinks well made and reasonable prices. Service is very friendly. While being a cafeteria, all the food is prepared to order. Have been three weeks in a row and haven't been disappointed. Keep in mind it is an early evening event, from 6pm to 10pm.

Spent to nights at Gasteig both at the Black Box were my husband was performing and in a larger Saal.
Though Gasteig is not very appealing from the outside, it really offers a lot of different rooms on the inside and several cafeterias. I tried the one at the entrance and below the stairs and was not disappointed by the macarons and cappuccino of the bar:).

We visited the Cultural Center without an special events taking place. Impressive building and facilities. We enjoyed lunch we wished there was a concert we could come back for.

Was taken to the Gasteig to see Max Raabe and the Palast Orchester by my sister and we had a great evening. The venue is huge both inside the auditorium and in the split level foyers. We had a glass of Sekt before the concert - minimal queuing as they had a number of bars - and then took our seats. There was plenty of leg room and we had a great view from the stalls - row C. Didn’t use the cloakroom facility and just had my coat with me although most people did check their stuff in. Eclectic audience, some dressed to the nines, others like us in fleeces and walking boots (having come from the airport). Was a great night. Easy transport links to all parts of Munich.

We saw Bach's Xmas contata with the Philharmonia choir which was superb. The ticket price includes free public transport after the concert - not sure how far that extends but certainly the inner subway area.
