The English Garden is a real gem in the city of Munich. It is very large, and we have just walked in the third that is nearest the city centre. There are an enormous number of tall, beautiful trees and the paths are creating a large web. You can probably walk for hours.
One distinctive feature is the very lively stream that flows throughout the park. This is used by many surfers that attract large crowds of spectators. The surfers are not just young men since a good proportion are females. In the upper part of the first third of the park there are a large area with different food stands and a lot of common sitting places and a large tower with a brass orchestra. All in all, I can recommend this park.

Large park with extensive grounds well worth a visit to get away from the hustle and bustle of Munich. Easy to get to from Munich centre. It is walkable if your fit but we took tram 16 to Tivolistrasse to get to a midway point for a good walk around Kleinhesseloher See and back to the beer garden for lunch. It was busy at the beer garden but easy enough to get served. You enter a central area through a turnstile and pick whatever food you like ( there is a lot of choice) and pick up your beer from the bar hatch. You proceed to pay at a kiosk for food a drinks. Glasses have a 1 euro deposit which is reclaimed at a separate hatch once you’ve finished. There is a great atmosphere here and worth the stop.

The English Garden is in the heart of Munich. I was there during summer for the fifth time and it is a perfect place where you can spend the hot summer in a big city. You can borrow a bike and discover the huge park by bike. Many tourists visit the English garden because of the artificial wave, where surfers can have an amazing experience! I stood close to the wave for a few minutes, and it makes so much fun only watching how the young people surf.
But the real reason for our visit was the swimming in the “Eisbach”. Summer in Munich can get very hot, so it is helpful if you can jump in cold water. But attention: the water is really cold! Most of the people jump in the stream and drift along until they reach the Tivoli-Bridge. There you can take the tram and drive back to your place and swim again. If you underestimate the drift, it can be very dangerous. I was surprised how big the park is but this is nowadays actually very good because you can keep enough distance from each other when you go for a walk with a friend during the Covid19-Pandemic.
I would be glad if we can travel as soon as possible, so I can visit the park this summer.
It is the best place for enjoying the summer, eating ice cream and meeting friends in the evening! A must-see in Munich.

This is such a wonderful space and since we were during the lovely winter to get to the Christmas Markets (that were sadly cancelled just before we arrived) please take our review with a grain of salt. Any open space in a large city is just a blessing given the absolute mayhem that can occur. It was very nice to walk around and stretch our legs. Wonderful seeing kids running around and dogs chasing balls. No doubt I would have given this 5 stars if this had been the summer when everything would have been green and blooming. Enjoy.

The English Garden is close to the Munich city center. The English Garden in Munich is not just a beautiful place to relax. People from the city and from other countries come together in the English Garden. It offers various activities. Since it is located on the Isar, you can go swimming, for example. But you can also watch the surfers. If you are looking for a little more peaceful and quiet place, you can also relax on one of the many meadows and read a book. The English garden also offers a beer garden by the Chinese tower. Here you can drink the Bavarian brew or eat something. Precisely because the park is in the immediate vicinity of the city and can be reached with a few subway stations, you can find a great break from the hustle and bustle of the big city here. However, the park is correspondingly full on warmer days. But still he is well-groomed. The English garden is a “must have” when visiting Munich.

The English Garden is vast and a lovely way to pass hours wandering or sitting sipping beer.

There is a large lake at the top end of the south part of the park with boats available for hire and the Seehaus restaurant. In the middle of the South Park is the Chinese Tower beer garden.

There are huge grass areas which are ideal for a picnic and water flowing throughout the park, including an area for surfing (for the very brave) near the south entrance.

A must visit in Munich.

It's a very nice city park. It's not a garden. There are two halves - one is basically a woods and the other is basically a lake with grass beach. There's beer haus spread out in the 'improved' area and it's a pleasant stroll... but the "English" is that the walking paths meander.

This park is Huge! Think NYC Central Park big. The park winds all through the city and has beautiful water features, green areas, trails and food areas close by. You could spend a day just in the park and not get bored. This is one of the nicest city parks I have been to without a doubt. It is walking distance from the Residence if you want to combine it with tan additional attraction. It is also a good change up to the museums and churches.

This 375-hectare park is one of the largest city parks in the world.

The best views are from Monopteros, the temple-like round building on a hill.

In the Japanese Tea House situated on an artificial island, you can have traditional tea ceremonies.

The most famous structure in the park is the Chinese Tower. This pagoda building with its imperial Chinese style is 25 meters high. The tower was under construction on our visit. There are many Biergarten-style restaurants next to the tower.

This stunning park was the main view from our hotel room at Hilton Park. The trees were especially beautiful in autumn colors.

Generally referred to as Munich’s green lung this is a peaceful place to spend a couple of hours. Most people tend to gravitate to the Chinese Tower and even on the day we visited with the temperature barely above freezing there were plenty of people sat outside enjoying a beer or gluhwein. However if you are entering the park from the corner of Prinzregenten and Lerchenfeld Strasse there is a lovely little cafe which seems to be in a converted public convenience. Don’t be put off it is very popular with local office workers and has a welcoming atmosphere and log fire. Ideal on a cold day. One of the more bizarre sights was a young man surfing downstream of a weir on the Eisbach. Keep a lookout for Red Squirrels.
