Beautiful place, nice foyer and theater.
Went there for a quartet performance, which was awesome.
Arrive early to check your place correctly. It's kinda tricky find your chair in the lodges.
It's also hard to find the place using google maps, once they have different theaters one close to each other.

We visited in December 2014 and were the only people in the theater during our visit. It doesn't take long to stop in and have a look around. Entrance fee is included in your Residenz ticket, but hours are different so check before you go.

Go if you buy the combo ticket for all three residenz attractions but there isn't much there, so don't spend 3.5 euros. Worth experiencing some music there though if you get the chance.

First the theater. It was destroyed during the bombing raids of the Second World War, but the interior had been removed and was reinstalled in the reconstructed building. So, what you see is mostly what was there before. Up close, the original hall decorations are surprisingly crude. Still, it is a cozy venue with few bad seats.
The performance we saw somewhat disappointing. The fault was ours. We did not read the prospectus carefully and just trusted the orchestra to be good - after all, this is Munich! The two symphonies (Beethoven and Mozart) and the rest of the program were performed by a string quintet sometimes accompanied by a second-rate flutist. The quintet performed competently and often with great flair. Alas, most in the audience had no clue. Listening to people in the nearby seats, it was apparent that they were not regular theater goers and were lost in the program. Applause followed EVERY movement of every piece. As the first symphony ended, the blow-hard sitting behind us proudly announced to his companion that the next was the fourth piece on the program. As we reached the end of the first half of the program, the audience just sat there waiting for the next piece to start. I have never seen this happen before, in any theater in any country.
It seems apparent to me that Cuvillies Theater caters to a tourist crowd, at least on a holiday night like the one we attended.

Picture perfect this was the best part of Munich for me!
Picture Ludvig II having a private viewing of a favourite opera. Indulgence at its best!

Golden decoration and red seats. Absolutely gorgeus. Most probably one of the nicest rococo theater on the world. And it has a very good acustics too!

It is part of the Residenz Palace, a beautiful theater built in the rococo style. Very extravagant decor of gold and red. Worth the combination ticket!

It will not take you very long to explore this theatre (unless you manage to co-incide with the Sunday tours), but it is magnificent. There is a small guide sheet in English available for free. (You may have to ask for it - the man taking our money did not offer it, but his colleague got it for us).

Spent 30 minutes wandering through the theater after our visit to the Residences. We found it a little hard to find (i do think we took the wrong way), Quite plain from the outside, but what a magnificent scene once you walk through the doors, We didnt have a chance to view any performances here, but could only imagine sitting in the beautiful surrounds and being immersed in music that would add to the appeal.Put it on your list to visit, or even better, try to catch a performance.

Completing the troika of offerings at the Munich Residenz complex, the Cuvillies Theater is located a bit off the beaten path from the entryway to the palace and treasury. It requires an extra 5 minutes or so after a visit to the main complex but is sign-posted and easily found. Known as one of the more famous rococo theaters in Europe, it was also the location of the premiere of Mozart’s opera “Idomeneo.” Unfortunately, that last sentence is about as much information as you’ll find in the area. Access is limited to the auditorium where the view of the surroundings is impressive enough but by nature somewhat superficial. There is no audio guide to supplement what are some fairly impressive decorations. I spent maybe ten minutes at most here and completed my tour of the complex after that. Worth a stop but it will most likely be a quick one.
