Beer was big and decent, was quite busy but took an age for the server to take our order (ok it seems to be a Munich thing).
Food was tasty, pork knuckle and a schnitzel, and service improved as it got later. Waiter accidently spilled beer over my wife's lap, very apologetic but may have been nice to take that drink off the bill and not be so pushy about requesting a tip.
That said I have been here before and will come again.

Wanted an authentic beer house in Germany and chanced upon this. Was glad we tried it for the experience. Atmosphere was good and there is a good selection of food to go with the main course, which is the beer of course. When we went, it was jam packed. Managed to find a seat in the open area where you had to go get your food/drinks and pay immediately, like Ikea or Marche style. Giant pretzels were warm and awesome. Not quite enough non-alcoholic choices but probably not a valid feedback even if I were to raise it. Great indoor halls. We didnt eat in there but popped in to snap some photos. All things considered, worth going.

Located in the Aldstadt(Old Town) a few minutes walk from Marienplatz is the AugustinerKeller which is one of the few buildings left standing after WWII and parts are reputed to date back to the 14th century.
It has a very authentic feel to it, it is deceptively large and has lots different sections. The service is fast and efficient, the food is good and of course the beer is excellent. I went for the darker draft beer instead of the normal pils larger and it was very tasty. The litre mugs proved daunting initially, but we soon got used to them!!

Last weekend my husband and I visited Munich. We had a late lunch in the – recommended – Augustiner Keller. First it is very hard to get a smoke-free table, it seems everyone smokes in this restaurant. The meal was so so, maybe typical Bavarian, but not really something special. When I received the bill, the waitress said that she forgot to put the ‘bretzels’ on the bill and asked how many we had. After answering two she wrote an extra 2,25 Euro on the receipt. I should have been more aware that she was cheating us from the beginning. In total it had become 41 Euro and I gave her my credit card. After the transaction I put an extra 3 Euro (in Europe the service is included in the price!) and I wrote a total of 44 Euro.
This morning I checked my transactions on-line and found out that the restaurant not only charged me the 44 but also an extra 3 Euro. It is not much, but I just don’t like this fraud. So be aware when you pay with your credit card. It seems they think that you either don’t notice this small fraud or won’t take action!

This is a HUGE beer hall in Munich which I had high hopes for due to great reviews while I was there.
The beer was good and really liked the place, but was blatantly ignored by one of the waiters. He took our drinks order and then busied himself doing something else right in front of us for 10 minutes !
I wouldn't have minded, but we made a point of learning how to say 'excuse my please' and 'can we have another round of drinks please' in German, so we were perfectly polite enough.
He was more than happy chatting to the German clientele though so it must've been just us Brits !!

We visited Munich in February-so we did not get to experience the full outdoor summer beergarden atmosphere-but for the indoors this place was tops! The basement (keller) is so cool. Definitely head down there for a table. The Augustiner beer is known around Munich as the best by the locals. The beer comes right out of the wood barrels here. It was our favorite hands down as well. You will be seated at big picnic style tables, usually with other people. Makes for a fun night out. The food was good and hearty traditional german, but really you are here for the beer and the atmosphere. They also have baskets of large soft pretzels on the tables you can eat. They just charge you when you pay your bill. Nice concept!
I would definitely choose this at the top place over the other beerhalls we visited (Lowenbraukeller and Hofbrauhaus). We visited twice in our 3 days.

I cannot stress enough how great this place is. It was certainly my favorite biergarten in Munich. Situated beneath a bunch of old and large chestnut trees, it is a great congregation spot. There is surely seating for couple thousand at least.
When you walk in you can choose to sit in the service area where you have a waiter or waitress, or you can walk towards the back to the self service area. We went to the self service area. Walk through the turnstiles and order up some typical German fare. I suggest the Nuremberg bratwursts on a bed of saurkraut, a giant pretzel and a plate of Bavarian Obazda (cheese spread).
Of course you can't forget to pick up a liter of one of Munich's best beers. Augustiner Helles is delicious! My mouth is watering just thinking about it! Watching them tap liter, after liter, after liter out of a large wood barrel is a sight to see.
Take in the atmosphere and live like a German for a while!

I'd really love to return here in the summer when the beer garden is open, however the inside beer hall is a good experience as well. The food was very good and decent-priced, and of course how can you not enjoy the beer? The service was pretty quick as well, and the waiter seemed surprised we didn't want to stay and drink.
There wasn't any live entertainment while we were there, but there was a stage, so it would seem that be a good time to visit too. The restaurant is also only about a five to ten minute walk from Hauptbahnhof (main train station), and hence many hotels.

Threw the bags into the hotel room (Winters), turned right from the hotel and found ourselves in Augustinerkeller...and wow what a smash on the senses. The beer garden was pretty full, it being a Friday evening but we found ourselves a table in the serviced area. The beer arrived and it tasted good - a nice, clean, refreshing taste. We ordered food and when it arrived it was large and plentiful. The service was excellent considering the amount of people around. There was one time that we ordered with a hand wave and a pointing of the finger (international language for another round) and I did not think he would remember as he was serving three at that time. Before we knew it, they arrived. Brilliant atmosphere. A little less touristy than other gardens in Munich centre. We were spolit by this place first, the other gardens could not really compete!

Went there after a tour with people I met during the tour, after our great lunch here, we were the best of friends!!! We were lucky with great weather! Plus, great food and beer. I highly recommend ❤️
They are having some renovations seems like, lots of lumber in the yard but it didn’t take away from the afternoon or meal :)
