The Glockenspiel is located on the north side of the Marienplatz near the very center of Munich, Germany. This attraction is built into the tower of the Neue Rathaus (the New Town Hall). The Neue Rathaus is the seat of the mayor’s office, the city council, and the headquarters of the city administration. The Glockenspiel started operating in 1908 and... More

The knight gets it! At 11 am the bells ring out and shortly after the glockenspiel starts it's magic. As the jester dances and the king starts the jousting competition, the crowd oohs and ahhhs and Spoiler.... cheers when the winning knight comes out victorious! This attraction takes about 10 minutes of your tour.

Every day at the set hours of 11AM and 5PM , the bells of the clock tower beckon those in the area to watch the mechanical knights duel in a reenactment of feudal fair activities. The square will be filled with both locals and tourists so get a prime spot and enjoy the show!

It's easy to see - you just need to be in Marienplatz at the times when it operates. It's worth being there at least once to see it. Watch your belongings, though - this is the kind of place where pickpockets might be operating.

It rings twice a day, at 11am and noon. It has two levels, after the church bells ring the top level comes alive and then the bottom with the dueling knights. It is a very nice show. It will give you a crick in your neck looking so high up!

I love Munich and the Glockenspiel In the square of Marienplatz is a must see. The traditional sound is like bell ringers and a delight to,listen to but add to that the amazing old mechanisms that had me mesmerized from start to finish. They really do tell a story if you pay attention. If in Munich don't miss this at... More

It seems that everyone comes to see the 11, 12 or 5:00pm ringing of the bells, even though it was -1 degree at the time. Thousands of people fill up the Marienplatz square, all standing ready with cameras, waiting for the time...

Sure this isn't anything that special especially if you seen one before however I try and do everything I can when I travel. I actually did the free city walking tour with Sandeman and had a very good explanation of the glockenspiel besides watching the 8 min performance. My husband and I had been waiting the night before expecting it... More

Then walk under the clocktower into the center of the building to see the remarkable architecture from in the courtyard. So pretty.

A very overrated experience, sure if you are in the square around the time the clock kicks off (11am,12pm,5pm in October) then sure stay for the 10 minute show if not there are literally a 100 better things to see in Munich
